If you want to be a better leader.... trust the team to be the experts you hired them to be. Empower them (and yourself) by allowing them to self manage, participate in healthy communication, and actively participate in solutions and outcomes; while your team focuses on the specifics of processes and tasks.

If you want to be a better leader.... be willing to get your hands dirty! You should be willing to "run in the trenches" with your team - and they know know that's how much you care about the mission, the clients, and them. This attitude builds trust and respect amongst teams; the team members know that the leader truly has their back and that they are just as committed as they are to the project at hand.

If you want to be a better leader.... be a forever learner. Choose to believe that you have something to learn from everyone in the room. Accept that you don't have to be the expert on everything, and surround yourself with experts you trust. A strong team is built by curious, respectful learners. A mentor once told me "you ain't that good yet" in an effort to help me open my eyes and ears - some of the best advice I've ever received.

If you want to be a better leader.... bond with your team. Connecting with your team on social media is a great way to deepen your relationships - but be cautious! You may learn more than you want to know by connecting with your team members on Facebook and other sites. Try LinkedIn, where you can give kudos, share news, and tag your colleagues in posts that give them a boost!

If you want to be a better leader....delete negatives from your vocabulary. Avoid sarcasm and starting sentences with don't, can't, won't.... you won't regret it. Your team will notice you a beacon for positivity; and it can actually improve your mental health (a coping mechanism for the stresses of life). Word from the wise - don't mistake positivity for optimism either!

They tend to associate interactions with you as lighter and happy and breaks up the monotony and heaviness of corporate goals and deadlines.

Show a little bit of your personality. Be a little bit vulnerable. But most importantly, be someone your team can relate too. Build rapport with your staff by giving them a window into your life, and asking for a glimpse into their world too.
