Northern Lakes Temporary Levy
Northern Lakes Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 4045, is asking for your help!
!! VOTE YES NOVEMBER 3RD!!
Northern Lakes Fire District is seeking to pass a 2-year temporary levy on the November 3rd ballot. This temporary levy will go into effect in January 2028 and replace our current temporary levy that expires at the same time. Passing this temporary override levy is important for maintaining staffing levels that help keep our citizens safe.
With the current temporary levy NLFD has:
Retained Trained Firefighters hired under a SAFER grant
Hired 12 qualified Firefighter, and covered the cost of their training
Increased our Paramedic staffing levels to provide better care for our citizens
Increased our staffing levels to provide the best response possible while still providing cost effective services
If the temporary levy fails at the ballot:
NLFD will be forced to reduce its workforce, possibly up to 1/3 of current staffing
Money already invested in training new firefighters will be lost as these firefighters find employment outside the community
Public safety will be reduced as staffing levels fall, resulting in less firefighters responding to emergent calls (house fires, wildland fires, and emergent medical calls such as cardiac arrests, traumatic injuries and strokes)
Our paramedic capabilities will be reduced to fewer apparatus, reducing our ability to render life saving care in time sensitive emergencies
Northern Lakes Fire district is one of the four largest fire districts in the state, by assessed property value. Despite its large-size, NLFD offers services at a property tax rate less than comparable agencies. Passing this temporary levy would cause minor increases to property taxes, increasing from 2026 by only $6.90/$100,000 of taxable assessed value.
