Today the WeKan Crew practiced important community and going-out-to-eat skills! 🍽️👏

Students worked on:
✨ Ordering their own food
✨ Using polite manners
✨ Reading menus
✨ Handling money/payment
✨ Making choices independently
✨ Waiting patiently
✨ Social communication skills

We are so proud of how respectful, responsible, and kind our crew was today! 💙

Not only did we have FUN 😄, but we also worked on important life skills like keeping score ✍️➕, taking turns 🤝, problem solving 🧠, and encouraging our teammates 🎉💪.

Since Hays doesn’t currently have a movie theater, the WeKan staff decided to bring the movie theater experience to our crew members! 🎬🍿

Each crew member was given a $20 budget along with a movie theater concessions menu. Students had to plan and budget for what they could purchase, including their $6 movie ticket. Crew members practiced real-life skills such as budgeting, money management, decision-making, problem solving, and prioritizing wants versus needs.

Activities like these help build independence and prepare our students for everyday community experiences in a fun and engaging way. We loved seeing the excitement, teamwork, and thoughtful choices made throughout the activity!

Today our Wekan Crew had a blast swimming at the FHSU pool! 🏊‍♂️💦💙

Today was about so much more than swimming — our students practiced important life skills like teamwork, social interaction, confidence, and trying new things

🌟 One of the best moments was watching so many
crew members step outside of their comfort zones and take a leap off the diving board! 💪✨

The Wekan crew has officially entered their “parent era” 🐣💛

Today was a BIG day—our baby chicks started hatching right here at Wekan and we are all a little obsessed already 😍🐥 There’s been so much excitement watching them come into the world!

While they just arrived today, this is going to turn into such a meaningful hands-on experience as our students step into caring for them—building real-life skills like responsibility, routines, patience, and teamwork 🧼🥚🕒

A special shoutout to Holden, who jumped right into his role and has already named every single chick: Ash, Nemo, Holden Jr., Cheese Pizza, Beep, Ball, and Hope 😂🐥💛

We can’t wait to watch these little ones grow—and see our students grow right along with them 🌱✨

What a BUSY and amazing week at WeKan! 🙌

Our crew has been on the move with cooking, work studies, community shopping trips, and even delivering Administrative Assistant appreciation gifts 💼💐 We also got creative—making art with a bike (yes, a bike! 🚲🎨), collaborating with Bethesda Place and continuing work on our collaborative mural, which is really starting to come together!

A huge THANK YOU to Samuel with the Boy Scouts for spending time with our crew today! 🥾 He shared so much great information about hiking—from what to pack, to making your own trail mix, to how to follow a map and reach your destination. Such valuable, hands-on learning!

Some of our crew members were hard at work learning how to hammer safely and the proper way to pull out nails (no smashed fingers here… we hope! 😅🧤) — talk about building those real-life skills 💪🪵

Meanwhile, others were out at their work studies doing an awesome job gaining hands-on experience in the community 👏💼

Today we’re celebrating Jayden on the same day as Shakespeare, so naturally the drama level is unmatched 🎭📜

Shakespeare brought the poetry… Jayden brings the personality 😄👏 Always silly, always cracking jokes, always finding a way to keep staff on their toes in the best way possible 😂
