We manufacture sustainable paper and wood products from renewable resources that are used every day by millions of people. To that end, we support policies that help our industry grow, create jobs, and foster global market competition so we can continue to provide these essential products.

We wish the ABSF well in their future endeavors.

Mr. Popp:
First of all, I would like to thank the foundation for the improvements that continue to take place since Telemark and Tony Wise filed bankruptcy and lost the Birkebeiner and Lumberjack World Championship assets.

I remember all too well what was at stake. The future of the assets. No race organization and the Log Rolling World Championships were threatening to move to Escanaba, MI. Local leaders from all walks of life joined together to form a team to keep the tradition of those assets in Hayward and Cable. We had no money and the bankruptcy court wanted money for the assets quickly. Not to bore you, together we got it done and those assets continue to operate today.

My reason for writing today is to let you know how pleased I am that the Foundation has prospered to the point that it can and does pick and choose where, how and who provide contributions for your events.

Even though I am conservative in my politics, I have never let that cloud my decision in helping the community.

In contrast, your Board has.

The staff’s decision not to engage the board has left me dumbfounded and quite frankly alarmed regarding Enbridge Energy. Enbridge not only supports our community constantly but also stepped up to help the Lumberjack World Championships through a rough patch not that long ago.

Please take this letter as our notice to withdraw any financial support to any of the Foundation’s events.

We will join Enbridge Energy in placing our efforts and support to other organizations in the area.

Respectfully,

William “Butch” Johnson
