🔥UPDATE - 8/21 7:00 AM: Hells Canyon Fire
DNRC crews have been monitoring the fire. It is now 100% contained.

🔥UPDATE - 8/19 8:12 AM: Hells Canyon Fire
DNRC crews monitored the fire overnight securing the edges and mopping up hot spots.
Updated size: 45 acres
DNRC crews will remain on scene throughout the day today.

🔥New Fire Start: Hells Canyon Fire🔥
At approximately 2:45pm the Hells Canyon Fire was reported burning in sage, grass and juniper roughly 6 miles north of Twin Bridges, Montana in Madison County. The fire was caused by lightning and is estimated at 15 acres.
5 DNRC engines, 2 DNRC helicopters, County Engines, and US Forest Service Engines are responding/on-scene.
Smoke may be visible from HWY 41 between Silver Star and Twin Bridges, please do not call 911.

Above-normal significant fire potential is forecast across much of the northwestern United States during August.
The outlook includes areas extending from central Utah, northwestern Colorado, western Wyoming, and northwestern Montana west to the Pacific Northwest coast and northeastern California. Above-normal potential is also forecast for portions of the northern and southern Plains, northern Minnesota, the Lower Mississippi Valley, south Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Conditions are expected to improve in several regions during September, although above-normal potential will continue across much of the Northwest, northern Rockies, northern Great Basin, western North Dakota, northern Minnesota, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
By October, most of the country is forecast to return to normal significant fire potential. Northern Minnesota, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are expected to remain above normal. In November, northern Minnesota is the only area forecast to retain above-normal potential.

Northern Rockies Team 1 has been ordered and several team members are mobilizing to the Shingle Creek Fire in central Idaho. The fire is located southwest of Riggins, Idaho.

Friends, the summer fire season has arrived in several locations in the west. The southeast and plains have been in it on and off for several months. Safe travels and watch out for each other because July and August remain in the windshield.

🔥Initial Attack Activity 5/14🔥

Firefighters from the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, assisted by our county cooperators, responded to reports of new wildfire activity earlier today.

🔥Centennial- Helena Ranger District. The fire is 1/2 acre in size and located approximately three miles south of York. Firefighters are completing handline around the fire and removing snags.

🔥Spruce- Helena Ranger District. The fire is 1/2 acre in size and located approximately one mile north of Park Lake. Firefighters, including members of the Clancy Volunteer Fire Department, are working on constructing handline around the fire.

🔥Jericho Creek Fire Update 5/14🔥

The Jericho Creek Fire received rain overnight and remains approximately 5 acres in size. The fire is burning in heavy dead and down fuels and firefighters will continue to work today on gaining access to the fire. With high winds predicted, some tree torching and smoke may be visible from Highway 12.

The safety of firefighters and the public is always our first priority.

🔥Wildfire Initial Attack 5/13🔥

Firefighters from the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest are responding to a new wildfire that is estimated at 5 acres with some torching. It is located south of MacDonald Pass and west of Jericho Mountain and is visible from Highway 12.
