I was researching hydrogen peroxide/ blue spectrum light whitening techniques and after digging through the recent cgc forums on the topic - hard pass. Leave that stuff alone. While digging I stumbled into the fascinating world of YouTube pressing & restoration videos. Wow. F**k me. The amount of disinformation (whether intentional or what I assume in most cases - ignorance) is shocking. Watched a guy - who’s on IG - swear you need to leave books in the press for 16 hours on both sides “or else!” 😂 watched another guy proceed to fire modern books in at 164 for 10 minutes only to then remove the book hot and place it under acrylic pads under shake weights. Guys- let me put it this way - there are a LOT of ways to skin a cat and if you’re getting results using a technique you’ve taught yourself through trial and error - by all mean carry on! However- if you’re like the YouTube videos I watched and you’re cooking books based on old wives tales, hearsay and conjuncture just holler at someone that knows what they’re doing before launching a YouTube pressing channel, you’ll be doing the community (not to mention our depleting inventories of old books) a huge a favor. Rant over. Here’s a I did for the PC about 6 months ago.
