Controlling runoff matters, but so does what that runoff carries.

After rain moves across parking lots, roads, and developed sites, the water may carry sediment, trash, nutrients, metals, oils, and other pollutants downstream.

𝗡𝗼 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻? 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

The Eureka Trail trailhead needed more parking, but the constrained site did not have room for a separate detention basin.

Instead of treating the parking lot and stormwater system as two separate pieces, the project team made the surface part of the solution.

🚗 Approximately 5,500 square feet of porous aggregate pavers

💧 An additional 18 inches of underground stone storage

🌱 An underdrain directing excess water toward a nearby grass swale

The result was durable, load-supporting parking that helped manage runoff within the same footprint while maintaining the trailhead’s natural appearance and project budget.

It is a good example of what happens when stormwater requirements are considered as part of the complete site rather than handled as an afterthought.
