The V.P. of Sales will be responsible for, but not limited to:

โ€ข Complete sales & negotiate contracts, as needed.
โ€ข Participate in fiscal year business planning.
โ€ข Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews with current customers, in conjunction with Account Executives, Account Managers (if applicable), & other designees to improve quality of service & unearth other avenues for opportunity.
โ€ข Keep current with industry standards & knowledge by attending trade shows, seminars & conventions.
โ€ข Collaborate with President & CFO to accurately budget expenses & forecast future revenue, trending & actual sales activity.
โ€ข Prepare & present proposals & presentations as needed.
โ€ข Define new markets & propose strategies to succeed in new markets.
โ€ข Maintain Monthly Sales Forecast & coordinate with Executive team.

Professional Requirements:

โ€ข 10+ years of proven sales experience, selling to Major Brands
Strategic Planning.
โ€ข Experience selling technology products and/or services to medium & large business.
โ€ข Identify sales opportunities in territory through prospecting, sales calls & prospect communications (verbal & written)
โ€ข Ability/willingness to travel throughout the country

The impact of language on sales outcomes varies depending on context, audience and delivery. Nonetheless, there are particular words and phrases that most certainly have a negative connotation or unnecessarily impede the sales process.

If you're a salesperson, it's important to be mindful of the language you use during a sales conversation. Here are a few phrases to avoid and why:

๐Ÿญ. "๐—›๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—น๐˜†": When the word "honestly" is used in a sales conversation, it raises doubts about the truthfulness of the statement that follows, or anything that was said previously to that. Try starting your sentence with something like "My experience has shown me" instead.

๐Ÿฎ. "๐—ฌ๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฑ": This phrase can come across as arrogant or bossy, potentially putting the prospect/customer on the defensive. Instead, try to understand their needs and challenges before making any suggestions.

๐Ÿฏ. "๐—•๐˜‚๐˜": One of the quickest ways to sound insincere is to acknowledge what your prospect/customer says and then continue with "but...". It may create a perception of disagreement which may make them feel that their concerns or objections are being dismissed or invalidated. Try using "and" to connect ideas or "on the other hand" to introduce contrasting points.

Instead, ask how the decision making process is made, and who is involved, to lead to a better outcome.

Thereโ€™s a great scene at the end of the movie โ€œThe Wolf of Wall Streetโ€ where Leonardo DiCaprio, portraying Jordan Belfort โ€“ the 1990s penny stock broker, asks a room full of salespeople at a seminar to sell him a pen. Mr. DiCaprio hands a pen to the first salesperson, who says, "It's an amazing pen..." Immediately, Mr. DiCaprio moves on to the next salesperson and poses the same question. The reply this time starts with โ€œItโ€™s a nice penโ€ฆโ€ This continues several times with Mr. DiCaprio unsatisfied with each response. But the movie never explains what the correct response should be. Trained sales professionals, however, immediately understood the mistake each salesperson is making. And itโ€™s a mistake made by many salespeople in the real world today. Never start off selling the features of your product or service without first uncovering what the needs, goals and challenges are of the prospect. Immediately going into your productโ€™s or serviceโ€™s features is basically telling the prospect that you donโ€™t care about them or what they want.

As the real-life Jordan Belford explained in an interview, the proper way to answer this question is to turn it around and start asking the prospect questions. โ€œSo, tell me how long have you been in the market for a pen? What kind of pen have you used in the past? Was it for business or personal? Typically, when you buy a pen what kind of money do you spend on it? The key to selling is to find out what are your clientโ€™s needs, values. What pain are they looking to resolve? What do they need? And youโ€™re looking to fulfill that need at the most basic level.โ€

In my previous post I mentioned the importance of utilizing a secondary domain for cold email prospecting campaigns in order to protect the deliverability & reputation of your primary domain. But using a secondary domain doesn't mean you can just start sending out volumes of emails from the get go. ESPs (email service providers) have mechanisms in place to protect their users' experience & will mark you as spam if you start a cold email campaign with guns blazing.

Email warming is a practice used to gradually establish & build a positive reputation with ESPs. The purpose of email warming is to prevent emails from being marked as spam & to improve overall deliverability rates. Here are a few benefits of email warming:

Consistently sending low volumes initially & gradually increasing this volume signals to ESPs that the sender is legitimate.
