A brand-new home doesn’t mean you’re protected from water problems. 😳💧

In this video, a homeowner shares her experience with drainage issues and says insurance didn’t cover the damage.

And it’s an important reminder, especially during hurricane season: Water doesn’t have to come through your roof to become a serious problem.

Water pooling around your property can be a warning sign of poor drainage and, depending on the conditions, may increase the risk of water intrusion.

After a storm, once it’s safe:

💧 Check for standing water around your home.

💧 Look for new moisture stains on walls and floors.

💧 Check gutters and drains without entering flooded or unstable areas.

💧 Document any damage and review your insurance coverage. Standard homeowners policies typically don’t cover flood damage.

At Mold Care, we help homeowners across Florida and Texas with water damage restoration and mold remediation.

Have you ever found out your insurance wouldn’t cover damage you thought was protected? 👀👇

Imagine spending years building your dream home… only to watch water start damaging everything you’ve worked so hard for. 💔

It’s not just a ceiling, a wall, or a floor.

It’s years of hard work, sacrifices, savings, and dreams finally coming to life.

In this video, a homeowner shares that her husband spent three years building their home. They had only been living in it for seven months when an accidental flood happened.

And while not every water damage emergency can be prevented, there are steps you can take to reduce the risk:

💧 Check your plumbing connections regularly. Especially around washing machines, dishwashers, water heaters, and exposed pipes.

💧 Don’t ignore small leaks. What starts as a minor drip can eventually affect surrounding materials.

💧 Consider installing water leak detectors. Some can alert you when water is detected where it shouldn’t be.

💧 Know where your main water shutoff valve is. Being able to shut off the water quickly can make a huge difference.

But what if the damage has already happened?

1️⃣ Put safety first and shut off the water supply if it’s safe to do so.

2️⃣ Document the damage with photos and videos.

3️⃣ Contact your insurance company if applicable.

4️⃣ Get professional help to assess affected materials and begin proper drying and restoration.

At Mold Care, we understand that restoring a home is about more than repairing damaged materials. It’s about helping families get their peace of mind back. 🏠💚

We specialize in water damage restoration and mold remediation across Florida and Texas.

A flood can go from “we have a problem” to “what do we do now?” in a matter of minutes. 😳💧

If water is entering your home, your first move shouldn’t be trying to save the furniture.

1. Prioritize your safety.
If there’s an electrical hazard, water near outlets or equipment, or a situation you can’t safely control, stay away from the affected area.

2. If it’s safe to do so, identify and stop the water source.
If the water is coming from your home’s plumbing, shutting off the supply may help prevent additional damage.

3. Document what’s happening.
Take photos and videos of the water and affected areas before moving things, as long as it’s safe to do so.

4. Don’t assume the problem is over when the visible water is gone.
Moisture can remain under flooring, behind baseboards, inside walls, and within other building materials.

5. Start the assessment and drying process as soon as possible.
The goal isn’t just removing visible water — it’s determining how far it traveled and what materials are still wet.

A home can look perfect the day you buy it… until the first heavy rain hits. 🌧️🏠

One thing many buyers don’t think to check is: Where does the water around the property go when it rains?

Before buying — or even if you already own your home — pay attention to:

💧 Ground that slopes toward the house instead of away from it.
💧 Water pooling near the foundation.
💧 Downspouts releasing water too close to the home.
💧 Stains, musty odors, or signs of previous water intrusion in basements and lower areas.
💧 Cracks or other potential entry points for water.

And if water does get inside, just because it’s no longer standing on the floor doesn’t necessarily mean everything is dry. Moisture can remain in drywall, wood, insulation, and other areas you can’t see.

That’s why acting quickly matters.

A home can look spotless during a walkthrough… and still show subtle signs that something may be happening behind the walls. 👀

If you’re thinking about buying a property, don’t just look at the kitchen, the floors, or how fresh the paint looks.

Pay attention to small details like:

🔎 Fresh paint in isolated areas
🔎 Bubbling, peeling, or separating paint
🔎 Stains or discoloration on walls and ceilings
🔎 Swollen, separated, or warped baseboards
🔎 Musty odors, especially inside closets or closed rooms
🔎 Signs of previous repairs around ceilings, windows, or plumbing

None of these signs alone confirms mold. But they can be a reason to investigate further before you buy.

Because sometimes the most expensive problem isn’t the one you can see during the walkthrough… it’s the one hiding behind the walls. 🏠

If your home starts flooding, the first few minutes matter. 💧

Save this because in the middle of the chaos, it’s easy not to know where to start:

1️⃣ Protect people first. Keep children and pets away from the flooded area, and avoid entering standing water if there may be an electrical hazard.

2️⃣ If you can do it safely, stop the source of the water. If it’s coming from a pipe, appliance, or another source inside the property, shutting off the water can help prevent additional damage.

3️⃣ Don’t handle electrical equipment while in contact with water. If outlets, wires, or appliances are near the water, prioritize your safety.

4️⃣ Document what’s happening. Take photos and videos of the water and damage before moving belongings, as long as it’s safe to do so.

5️⃣ Contact a restoration company as soon as possible. Removing visible water isn’t enough. Moisture can remain trapped under floors, behind walls, and inside building materials.

6️⃣ Drying matters just as much as extraction. A property can look dry on the surface while moisture is still hiding where you can’t see it.

📌 Save this Reel. It’s the kind of information you hope you’ll never need — but you’ll want it handy if you ever do.

If your home floods, removing the visible water is only the beginning. 💧

Here’s what you should do next:

1️⃣ Put safety first. If there’s an electrical hazard, structural damage, or potentially contaminated water, stay out of the affected area.

2️⃣ Document the damage. Take photos and videos before moving or throwing things away, especially if you’ll be filing an insurance claim.

3️⃣ Stop the water source, if it’s still active and you can do so safely.

4️⃣ Remove standing water as soon as possible.

5️⃣ Don’t confuse “the water is gone” with “the house is dry.” Moisture can remain trapped under floors, behind walls, and inside building materials.

6️⃣ Start the drying and restoration process. Finding moisture you can’t see is key to reducing further damage and preventing conditions that can support mold growth.

A flood isn’t over when the water disappears. It’s over when the property is actually dry and restored. 🏠

Your attic can have a serious moisture problem without a single drop of water showing up inside your home. 😳

In this case, the issue was related to ventilation: humid air was ending up in the attic instead of being properly exhausted outdoors.

The result? Moisture building up in an area most homeowners rarely ever see.

And here’s the important part: not every moisture problem starts with a burst pipe or an obvious roof leak.

Things worth checking include:

💨 Where bathroom and other exhaust ducts actually terminate
💧 Signs of condensation in the attic
🏠 Staining or deterioration on the underside of the roof
👃 Musty odors without an obvious leak
🔍 Attic ventilation and other potential moisture sources

Cleaning what you can see without correcting why the moisture is there doesn’t solve the underlying problem.

If you discover persistent moisture, water damage, or possible mold growth, Mold Care can help identify the source, assess the damage, and determine the next steps to restore your property.
