Opening day of r***e season tomorrow. Another year has flown by. Most people go by New Year's measuring the year gone by, but not deer hunters, their time is measured by opening day. Just a reminder to read last week's post on caping deer. Make your taxidermist life a little easier. As you know we are usually behind. Still trying to get this past seasons finished out. If you see yours in this picture it's on its way. Good luck and be safe. 🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌

Tomorrow is opening day of muzzleloader season. Just a couple reminder tips if you are wanting to have your deer mounted. When caping it be sure to cut up the back of the legs and leave at least to the midsection as the diagram shows. And preferably leave about 3 to 4 inches of neck for a more accurate measurement. And to all of you hunters packing them out, bears or deer, add a small cheap tarp to your pack to keep it clean. Also, I will only be accepting local or past customers for mounts this season. I had a few carrying over on a waiting list from the past season and bow season was productive for a lot of hunters. I am a little behind finishing up the past seasons and would like to get back to finishing up by October each season. Good luck to everyone and be safe.

Another year has gone by again and hunting season is upon us again. Saturday is the first day of archery season. The best time to thin down some of those bears that are usually causing trouble. I will still be tagging bears for the DNR and can meet you at the shop most anytime. If you want one mounted or tanned be sure to get it cooled down as quickly as possible. Keep it dry and dont roll up a warm hide until it has cooled off some. If you want a half mount keep the cut short when gutting it. If you are close by and can bring the whole bear I can skin it based on the form you choose. Most half body mounts I prefer to skin down the back. Good luck to everyone and be safe.

This is a first for me. I have mounted several bears but have never got to do a full rug. My new friend Scott Osborne from Florida stopped in the shop one day and asked where he might find a bear, I tried to point him in the right direction. Bow hunting didn't go real well although he did see one which was a first for him. Then on the early r***e hunt for bear on the WMA he finally got a shot. There were a lot of acorns this past season made it more difficult but he really hunted hard. She wasn't a big sow but he was a very happy hunter. I helped him bring her out. He had already decided he wanted a rug. The rug shell is from Matuska Taxidermy@ supply, I used the real teeth, tanned in shop, but I sent it to Rug-Be Bears @ in Michigan to do the felt edges and backing. They install hooks also for hanging. They did a nice job. Scott will be back again this season trying for a bigger one. Congratulations Scott 🐻

Here is a McKenzie 4600 full sneak. I've done a few over the years but I don't think I have posted one. Works especially well for lower ceilings or maybe you have so many big buck mounts you don't have a lot of room and you are trying to squeeze in one more. As in this case with Dean Tucker of Hiawassee and a 12-point Ohio buck taken with his bow. Unique rack on this buck. Congratulations on a beautiful buck. 🦌🦌🦌

Here is one of McKenzie's newer forms. First time I have used one. I really like it. It is the 40 WP , semi upright wall pedestal. Wall pedestals set off the wall slightly and that part of the back is finished with a variety of materials. I generally use burlap with rope trim. A lot of extra brisket and shoulder detail on this form. On that note, always be sure and leave a lot of cape for a possible Mount like this. This is a big Ohio buck taken by Jacob Hill of Hiawassee. Congratulations Jacob 🦌🦌🦌
