It's not AI... it's an eastern mole and he rules the ground beneath your feet! When this handsome fellow was found on the road in Plattsmouth, his unusual above-ground adventure suggested something wasn't quite right and he was brought to The Baldwin Wildlife Center for care. An examination, including X-ray and CT scan, revealed he was struggling with suspect head trauma, likely explaining why he was discovered out of place.
Moles evolved for a life spent mostly underground, where light is scarce or absent, and vision is far less useful than touch and vibration. What they lack in eyesight they make up for with highly sensitive noses and whiskers that navigate the dark world beneath our feet. Their powerful, outward-facing forelimbs act like tiny shovels, allowing them to dig extensive tunnel systems in search of earthworms and insects. Velvety fur can bend in any direction, helping them move forward and backward through narrow tunnels with ease. Simply put, moles are the most exquisite little creatures and we're genuinely honored to host such a lovely guest!
Since his arrival, he's continued to show promising signs of improvement, and impressed our staff with his hardy appetite - almost 70 earthworms per day! With time and a safe place to convalesce from his injuries, we're hopeful he'll make a full recovery. Wish him luck on his journey!
