HVAS extends a warm welcome to the newly renovated Higganum Hometown Market!

The market looks great, aisles are clean and stocked, and it’s wonderful to see a family-owned business investing in our small town. As volunteers, we know how important community connections are, and we look forward to stopping in for a quick snack between calls, shopping for our families, and seeing these friendly smiling faces around town for years to come.

Please join us in supporting small businesses in Haddam!

Haddam Neck Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief of EMS Kim Danaher is also a valued member of our HVAS career team and recently helped deliver a healthy baby boy during an emergency response call.
Congratulations, Kim, on this amazing moment and for the outstanding care you provide to our community every day. πŸš’πŸš‘πŸ‘Ά

Please join us in welcoming our newest volunteer from Wesleyan University, Jacklyn Brzoska!
In this photo, Jacklyn is working with EMT Elaine Carlton to review the contents of our portable suction unit, while HVAS Education Coordinator Doug Dole, Paramedic, demonstrates the use of the Pedi Mate, an important device for safely transporting infants on an ambulance stretcher.
At HVAS, all new members and staff, regardless of prior experience, complete a comprehensive onboarding program. This ensures everyone is fully prepared and familiar with our equipment, vehicles, facility, and policies before responding independently to 911 calls.
Welcome to the team, Jacklyn! @topfans

Our new First Selectman, Sean Donlan stopped by HQ to meet with some of our volunteers and Board of Directors in our native habitat, and even joined us for a (surprisingly) healthy snack.

Pictured here: Cindy Sadlowski, Treasurer; Assistant Chief Joe Arabas, EMR; Veteran EMT and BOD member Rudy Durinick; EMT/Scheduling Coordinator and BOD member Elaine Carlton.

Also present were Paramedic Doug Dole, Education Coordinator/BOD member; Shawn Archer, Community Board member and unofficial Snack Warden (maintaining order and ensuring no one skips the fruit), and Chief Rhonda Boisvert, EMT, photographer.

HVAS is fortunate to have EMTs like Samantha, who are college students pursuing medical careers, volunteering with us.
Their EMS experience carries forward into how they care for patients in the emergency department.
Having worked in the field, they understand the prehospital environment, value the EMT’s assessment, and communicate more effectively during handoffs.
For patients, that means a smoother transition of care and a provider who truly understands their story from the moment help arrived.
We’re very grateful they choose to spend time outside of their classes working alongside our local volunteers, answering calls, and caring for our community.πŸš‘πŸŽ“
