ANOTHER COMMUNITY IMPACTED BY VIOLENCE

On Wednesday afternoon, gunfire erupted inside a high-rise apartment building in downtown Minneapolis. Two civilians were killed, several others were wounded, and responding police officers came under fire while moving toward the threat, rescuing victims, and evacuating residents. Two officers suffered gunshot wounds, and additional first responders were injured or affected during the response.

The suspected shooter also died at the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the motive, the circumstances leading to the attack, and whether earlier warning signs played a role.

This incident is another difficult reminder that violence can unfold rapidly in the places where people live, work, worship, and gather. Apartment communities and other residential properties must be included in conversations about emergency planning, threat reporting, access control, communication, and coordinated response.

Plans cannot exist only on paper. Residents and employees must know how to report concerning behavior, where to seek protection, how to communicate during an emergency, and what actions to take when every second matters.

A SAFE KNIGHT, INC. extends our prayers and deepest condolences to the families of those who were killed, those who were wounded, the officers and first responders involved, and every resident whose sense of safety was shattered by this violence.

We do not want you scared. We want you prepared.

**A BUSY AUGUST FOR A SAFE KNIGHT, INC.**

August was a busy month for A SAFE KNIGHT, Inc. We spent much of it on the road, traveling across the country and training alongside great people who serve and protect their communities every day.

One of the things I enjoy most about what we do is that we go to the people we train. That means the training doesn't always happen in a comfortable classroom. This month found us in schools, churches, businesses, outdoor training areas, scenario sites, and on the range.

Along the way, we worked with people representing agencies and organizations from **South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, and several other areas.**

Some of the agencies represented during our August training included:

• West Columbia Police Department
• South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
• Clemson University Police Department
• South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED)
• Beaufort City Police Department
• U.S. Army National Guard
• South Carolina Bureau of Protective Services
• Laurens Police Department
• Greenwood Police Department
• Pickens County Sheriff’s Office
• Union County Sheriff’s Office
• Sumter County Sheriff’s Office
• South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services
• Fort Jackson Police Department
• Shelby County Sheriff’s Office
• Mississippi Department of Corrections
• Riverton Police Department
• Uinta County Sheriff’s Office
• Cody Police Department
• Loveland Police Department
• Idaho State Police
• Marion County Sheriff’s Office
• Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia
• Bluffton Police Department
• Federal Bureau of Investigation
• Cobb County Sheriff’s Office
• North Georgia Technical College
• GEMA High School
• Clayton Police Department

What I appreciate most is the variety of people we get to work with. Law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, SROs, church security teams, community groups, and executive protection professionals may have different missions, but they all share something in common—they understand the importance of being prepared before something happens.

That's really what this work is about.

We aren't interested in simply checking a training box or standing in front of a classroom and presenting another PowerPoint. We want to pass along the experience, lessons learned, techniques, and best practices we've picked up over the years and give people an opportunity to put those things into practice.

Some days that means a classroom. Other days it means sweat, dirt, range time, repetitions, scenarios, mistakes, corrections, and doing it again until it gets better.

We appreciate every agency, organization, instructor, and student who welcomed us into their community this month. More importantly, we appreciate the effort the students put into the training. Good training requires people who are willing to work, accept coaching, challenge themselves, and invest some sweat equity into getting better.

There were a lot of miles traveled in August and some long days along the way, but when you get to spend those days working with good people who genuinely care about protecting others, they're miles well spent.

**August is in the books. Now let's see what September has in store for us.**

A Safe Knight, Inc. just wrapped up another outstanding week of training with professionals representing:

• Beaufort City Police Department
• U.S. Army National Guard
• Clemson University Police Department
• West Columbia Police Department
• South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
• South Carolina Bureau of Protective Services
• South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED)
• Laurens Police Department

This was not an easy week.

The range days were intense, the pace was demanding, and there was plenty of heat, fatigue, and sweat involved. But this group showed up every day ready to work, improve, and push themselves.

That kind of effort matters.

Training only works when students are willing to invest in it, accept coaching, repeat difficult tasks, correct mistakes, and keep performing when they are tired and uncomfortable. This group did exactly that.

A lot of sweat equity went into this week, and it produced some very good training.

We are grateful for the professionalism, attitude, and commitment demonstrated by every student and every agency represented. It is always a privilege to work with people who take their responsibilities seriously and understand that competence is earned long before the critical incident ever occurs.

At A Safe Knight, Inc., we believe training should be realistic, relevant, and demanding enough to expose weaknesses before the real world does.

Whether we are working with law enforcement, military personnel, schools, churches, businesses, healthcare organizations, or private-sector security teams, our mission remains the same:

Prepare people to make better decisions, perform under pressure, and bring order to chaos when it matters most.

Thank you to everyone who put in the work this week.

You earned it.

Another week of training is in the books for A Safe Knight, Inc.

We just wrapped up a great week in Memphis, Tennessee, working with a solid group of newly certified instructors from Memphis, TN; Tupelo, MS; Madison, WI; and Nashville, TN.

It’s always rewarding to spend time with professionals who are committed to taking what they learn back to their agencies and communities and making a difference.

Now it’s time to repack the gear, review the lesson plans, and get ready to do it again.

Next stop: Lexington, South Carolina, for another full week of training with law enforcement officers from across the Palmetto State.

Different cities. Different agencies. Different experiences. But the mission stays the same: prepare people to make better decisions, respond effectively, and bring order to chaos when it matters most.

Grateful for the opportunity to continue traveling, teaching, learning, and working alongside some outstanding professionals.

Daily Safety Brief from A SAFE KNIGHT, Inc.

Heads up. Exits first. Options ready.

Every time you enter a space—office, school, church, store, or parking lot—take 5 seconds:

1. Scan left to right. Note people, doors, and anything that feels off.
2. Identify two exits (or more). Know your primary escape and a backup.
3. Keep your head up and phone down in transitional areas. Distraction makes you a softer target.

If the unthinkable happens, follow the national standard (FBI/DHS):

RUN if a safe path exists. Leave belongings. Help others if you can.

HIDE if you can’t run. Lock/barricade, silence devices, stay quiet and out of sight.

FIGHT only as a last resort—commit fully and improvise.

See something suspicious? Report it early. Prepared people create safer communities.

Train. Plan. Prepare—so you never have to say, “I didn’t think it would happen.”
Stay sharp today.
