The vision for a redeveloped Renaissance Center and broader east Detroit riverfront plan also includes a pair of mixed-income apartment buildings that were not publicly revealed until recently.
In all, the plan — at least at this stage — includes 934 residential units, 584 of which were previously known before an additional 350 were referenced in public literature.
That’s expected to be the first of many new details about the $1.6 billion-plus proposal spearheaded by Dan Gilbert’s Bedrock LLC and General Motors Co. as they kick off what’s expected to be a months-long series of public meetings and incentive requests to reimagine the most iconic stretch of Detroit’s downtown skyline.
The additional 350 units would be included in a pair of new buildings — one immediately next to an existing parking deck at the northwest corner of Atwater and Rivard streets, and another immediately north of it, sandwiched between Woodbridge and Franklin streets, according to a concept plan on display at the new East Riverfront Community Hub at Beaubien Place.
