Great idea!
The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office has established an Exchange Zone for personal, business and civil transactions in the parking lot southeast of the jail. This Exchange Zone is intended to provide a place where people can feel more secure when meeting someone in-person. Two parking spots have been marked with our Exchange Zone signage and they’re both within view of our high definition video cameras.
The community is welcome to use this Exchange Zone. Many people are using online marketplaces, such as pages, to sell and buy items. Often times, those transactions mean people are meeting up face-to-face with strangers. There have been reports of scams and threats during some of those transactions and the Exchange Zone is intended to help address those. Exchange Zones also have been used for civil transactions, such as transferring children for visitation purposes.
Regardless of whether you’re in our parking lot or somewhere else, we encourage you to always exercise caution anytime money and goods are changing hands, especially if you’re dealing with strangers on these types of transactions.
The Sheriff's Office and Jail are located at 300 S. Jackson St., Waxahachie. The parking lot is at the southeast corner of the jail.
