Over the past year, remote work has been one of the most exciting and talked-about trends in rural development. In theory, remote work offers an opportunity for rural areas to leverage local strengths and assets to attract new residents who can bring their job with them, and expand the job market for existing residents.

After more than a decade of lagging economic growth in rural areas, it is no surprise that remote work opportunities are exciting to economic development leaders who see the opportunity to increase employment and grow the local talent base.

Great news for family businesses. Back to work after COVID has appeared to be the trend, but it isn't. While blue color workers returned to work fairly quickly, many white color workers didn't. WFH is accelerating especially in the professional level career segment. When these people work remote they venture out and do business locally where they live, rather than in the office park or nearby.

Which came first, the light bulb or the electric grid? It’s hard to imagine, and may take longer than the automakers are saying. The announcements of the shift to EV keep coming. What we don’t see is any real response from The Grid as to how they’re gearing up to deliver all that power to all those places where these EV’s will be. Naysayers say the residential neighborhoods can’t deliver it. Meanwhile charging stations are getting faster, and are multiplying like bunny rabbits in May. Yes, you can bet the cost of a charge at the charger will be going up as EV’s populate our garages. Many more may be using EV powered autonomous Ubers. The old Livery and Stagecoach operations died fast and hard. We’ll see.…
