The most important leadership quality I look for is the ability to be a navigator.

No matter what problem or challenge you’re up against, true leaders find a way forward. They bring a positive attitude, put in the right effort, and stay focused on solving the problem rather than finding reasons it can’t be done.

That’s what being a navigator means to me. It’s not about having every answer. It’s about being willing to find a way.

Small towns are more than places on a map. They’re communities built on relationships, hard work, and people who show up for one another.

For Merchants National Bank, that’s where our purpose comes to life. Farmers, small business owners, families — these are the people and communities we’re here to serve.

Leaving small towns behind would mean leaving people behind. And that’s not an option for us.

Starting somewhere new means there’s a lot to learn — new people, new processes, and a whole new environment to get to know.

My advice? Find a mentor and, when the time comes, be a mentor.

Having someone in your corner to help you get acclimated can make all the difference. And eventually, you’ll have the opportunity to return the favor for someone else.

That’s how we grow, support one another, and build the kind of culture where people feel right at home.

One of the questions I wish more people would ask their banker is: What can I do today to prepare for that next life milestone?

Because banking shouldn’t just be about where you are right now. It should be about where you’re going.

Whether it’s buying your first home, starting a new job, growing your family, or planning for retirement, having the right advice along the way can make all the difference.

That’s the kind of relationship we want to have with our customers — one that helps you feel prepared for your next chapter, whatever that may be.

My goal as CEO is to make sure that everyone has a clear understanding of what we're doing, why we're doing, and what their role is in it. When we do that, we can achieve anything together. To my team and our customers, my door is always open and I'm here to help you succeed in any way that I can.

The roots of this organization got us to where we are today, and those same roots will get us to where we're going in the future. We will never lose sight of our history and will use it to build a stronger foundation as we prepare for even more growth going forward.

My journey to Merchant's National Bank started years ago when I would visit Hillsboro with my grandma every Saturday. She would always tell me that this bank was different because here it's not about the chandeliers, the show, or title — it's about how they treat people. So when I had the chance to interview for CEO, there was no way I was going to pass it up.

Having the opportunity to lead this organization is something that I will never take for granted. I'm so honored to be part of the MNB story!
