Our department was 1 of 150 in the United States selected to receive this grant. The money will be used to purchase a gear extractor (gear washing machine) which removes harmful contaminates from firefighters gear that they are exposed to on fire scenes. These contaminates have also been found to cause cancer in firefighters and the use of these machines greatly reduces this risk.

Special thank you to State Farm as well as Firefighter Z. Kelly for his work on this grant and commitment to our community.

Last night members of the SCVFD were fortunate to get the practice extrication skills. Special thanks to Hobos Wrecker Service for providing the vehicle and placing it into different positions to be worked on.

We'd like to congratulate several of our members as well as some from our neighboring departments on completing their live burn today! This is the final step of their training before their final exam, they got to put weeks of training into practice. Special thanks to Bo Cook for instructing them and passing on his wealth of knowledge.

Last night members of the Summers County VFD conducted forceable entry training under the direction of Chief Jeffries. Thanks to the City of Hinton Fire Department and Pipestem Volunteer Fire Department for use of their space and training prop.

Last night our department held its annual Christmas dinner. Congratulations to Zack K for being named Firefighter of the Year 2025 and receiving the Chief David Adkins Memorial Award.

This is also the first year our department has had to move our dinner to a bigger location due to the number of volunteers and family that were attending! We hope to continue this growth and that other departments will see the same.
