Our department was 1 of 150 in the United States selected to receive this grant. The money will be used to purchase a gear extractor (gear washing machine) which removes harmful contaminates from firefighters gear that they are exposed to on fire scenes. These contaminates have also been found to cause cancer in firefighters and the use of these machines greatly reduces this risk.
