International Architecture Day ✨

Today, we’re looking at the architect behind the original Ameritech Center: Dirk Lohan, a modernist architect whose work was deeply influenced by one of architecture’s most iconic figures—his grandfather, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. 💥

After leaving his native Germany, Lohan came to Chicago to study architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he studied under Mies. That influence would go on to shape a career spanning cultural, commercial, and civic projects—including the McDonald’s Headquarters Campus, Shedd Oceanarium, and the new Soldier Field. 👏

His approach to architecture was rooted in thoughtful design, purposeful spaces, and a modernist perspective that continues to influence the built environment around us. 🌎

Today, we’re giving the former AT&T campus a new chapter—reimagining Lohan’s original vision through a modern lens and bringing architecture, work, culture, and community together at Bell Works Chicagoland. 🏛️

All month long, we’re celebrating Archtober by uncovering the stories and design details behind the spaces you experience every day here at Bell Works Chicagoland 💡
