Twenty months ago, this space looked very different.

What is now home to Silver Forest Quilts was once a small house with separate rooms, a kitchen, walls, built-in cabinets, dated finishes, and a completely different layout.

Over the past twenty months, the space has been transformed into the quilting studio I envisioned. Walls came down, cabinets were removed, floors were replaced, every room was painted, and the entire building was redesigned to support creativity, quilting, and welcoming clients.

I hired a talented local contractor to help with much of the renovation work, and I spent many hours painting and adding the finishing touches myself.

Looking back at these before-and-after photos, I’m amazed at how far this little building has come.

A few weeks ago I finished a Paris-themed quilt for a client. Today — just now — she sent me this photo (the minute she took it!!!) from beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris because her quilt features many different Paris print fabrics, including the Eiffel Tower. I was absolutely thrilled that she thought to share this moment with me in real time!!! I felt like I was there with her and her family!! What a great photo of the Eiffel Tower too!!! My heart is singing today!!!

One of my favorite things about quilting isn’t just the quilts themselves—it’s creating a space where creativity, stories, and friendships come together.

Over the past several months I’ve been working on curating and renovating my Silver Forest Quilts studio here in Holden. Every quilt on the wall, every piece of art, every chair, and every little detail has been chosen to create a welcoming place where quilters can relax and enjoy the process of bringing their quilts to life.

When clients visit, we sit together, talk about their quilt, choose quilting designs and thread colors, and share the stories behind the fabrics and the people they love. Every quilt truly has a story, and I feel honored to be a small part of that story.

If you’re a local quilter and haven’t visited Silver Forest Quilts yet, I’d love to meet you and show you around the studio.

🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾 I couldn’t wait to share this finished quilt with you!! Many clients ship their quilts to me and this photo is one of several from Laura in Colorado. I’m always excited to open each box and see what has been created, because even after quilting over 3,000 quilts for clients over the last 15+ years, it’s rare that I see two alike! When I pulled this quilt from the box, my heart leaped with fun excitement to see the whimsical doggies!!! And then I saw the names appliquéd around the border and my heart sunk. I imagined her pups and all the fun over the years and the heartbreak of losing them. I remembered each of our family’s pets. What a special quilt — and what a special privilege to quilt it. Every quilt has a story and each one touches our hearts in different ways.

🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾 I couldn’t wait to share this finished quilt with you!! Each time Laura ships her latest quilt to me from Colorado, I can’t wait to open the box and see her latest creation. When I pulled this one out of the box, my heart just melted and fell in love as I looked at the whimsical doggies!! And THEN I saw the names of her beloved pets appliquéd around the border!! I remembered all of my beloved furry and feathered family members — yes, including our parakeet, Mozart — who turned out to be a she with a spunky attitude!! What a privilege to quilt this memory quilt and to once again remember each of my own pets. Each quilt has a story and each one touches us in various ways emotionally. 🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾

🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾 I couldn’t wait to share this quilt with all of you!!! Opening each box from Laura (she lives in Colorado and ships her quilts to me) to find her latest quilt creation inside is always super fun, but this one really got me!! Af first my heart was captured by each doggie’s cute expressions and the energy of the whimsical nature of the “portraits!!! And THEN I noticed the names appliquéd around the border and in putting two and two together, my heart sunk. I’ve lost my share of beloved pets over the years too. But what a great memory quilt Laura made for all of her precious furry family members. I fell in love with this quilt and appreciated the privilege of quilting it for her. 🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾

I love working in my renovated studio with some of my quilts on the walls, and my favorite art pieces and items I’ve collected over the years. Client quilts are part of the changing art display in the studio. It never gets old. I finished this quilt today for Kathie who will travel to Paris, France in a few weeks. She has made a French themed quilt for each of the 4 trips she has made there. This is Paris quilt #4!!! It’s quilted with a Fleur de Lis design. I feel like I’m part of the whole travel experience. I went to Paris in 1979, so I can picture the scenes, taste the food, hear the beautiful language and feel the inspiration. You never come home from Paris the same as before you went.

What a wonderful (and very full!) day at the quilt show 💙

I’m honored to share that four of my five quilts received ribbons:

🥇 Two First Place (Blue)
🥈 One Second Place
🥉 One Third Place

Each of these quilts is an original design—created, pieced, and custom quilted by me here at Silver Forest Quilts. Every piece reflects a different story, a different inspiration, and a deep love for the art of quilting.

While the ribbons are exciting, what meant even more to me was the experience itself—meeting so many kind people, connecting with fellow quilters, and building relationships within the quilting community here in Missouri.

I don’t create quilts to compete—I create them because I love the process and the beauty that comes from it. Having that work recognized is simply a blessing.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to visit, voted, and shared encouragement. It truly meant a lot.

I have a new quilt on the frame today, and this one is truly something special.

This is “Murder at Machu Picchu”, a 2025 mystery quilt, beautifully pieced by my client Sarah in Colorado. This is my first time working on a mystery “murder quilt,” and I have to say—I’m completely fascinated by both the concept and the artistry.

The piecing in this quilt is exceptional. It’s constructed using English paper piecing, which is a very detailed, time-intensive technique that requires incredible precision and patience. Every section reveals something new the longer you look at it.

For the quilting, Sarah selected an edge-to-edge design called “Adobe,” which has a Southwest feel that complements the quilt’s colors and theme perfectly. The thread colors she chose blend beautifully into the fabric, allowing the quilting to enhance the design without overpowering it.

This is the kind of quilt that tells a story—not just in its theme, but in the craftsmanship behind it. I’m honored to have it on my machine and to be part of bringing it to its finished form.

More to come as it progresses… 💛🍃
