✨ Customer Spotlight✨

Located in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, Butterworks Farm s a renowned producer of organic, 100% grass-fed buttermilk, yogurt, cream, and kefir made from the milk of their resident herd of beloved Jersey cows.

Established in 1976 by agricultural pioneers Jack and Anne Lazor, the farm has always prioritized land stewardship, sustainable farming practices, and a dedication to making a quality product. Today, under the ownership of Anthony Calderaro, Ania Kuniej, and Joseph Calderaro, Butterworks Farm continues to nurture the land and the animals and produce high quality dairy products that have become a staple in many households.

Anthony Calderaro, a longtime advocate for nutritious and accessible food shared his vision for the future of the farm: “We want to make as much healthy food for as many people as we can.” His commitment to the benefits of grass-fed dairy and regenerative agriculture is reflected in the farm’s ongoing initiative to improve soil health and pasture productivity. Utilizing soil amendments like animal manure and OMRI listed Wood Ash in addition to no-till farming practices has helped Butterworks Farm increase soil nutrients, improve water retention and carbon storage, and promotes overall farm resilience and sustainability.

One of the best things about the clean water industry is how its members are always willing to contribute their time and energy to great causes.

Our friend Scott Firmin, the GM of the Portland Water District, was staffing the Hydration Station at a Portland Hearts of Pine game this past weekend. Scott is also the current president of the Northeast Water Environment Association (NEWEA) and serves on the board of directors for the Northeast Biosolids & Residuals Association (NEBRA).

The industry wouldn’t be the same without great people like Scott who consistently go above and beyond to support their communities and promote clean water initiatives!

Fun fact of the day: a single teaspoon of healthy soil holds more living microorganisms than there are people on Earth. As we wrap up our spring spreading this week, we’re excited to watch these fields thrive as a result of healthy, robust soil!

Happy Earth Day from RMI!

Earth Day‘s call to action, to protect, preserve, and take initiative to improve the environment are the very principals that we built our mission around.

By partnering with eco-conscious generators of organic residuals, we are able to offer sustainable, locally sourced, and effective alternatives to chemical fertilizers that protect water quality, promote carbon sequestration, and restore soil productivity, amongst many other environmental benefits!

Our soil amendments have been used in a variety of projects throughout the Northeast, and we thought we would share some pictures from recent projects that highlight the effectiveness of these environmentally beneficial products.

April 12 - 18 is Clean Water Week, and many of our New Hampshire wastewater treatment facilities are participating in an exciting initiative that gives the public a behind-the-scenes look at the systems that supply us with reliable, potable water every day. This collaboration between the NHWPCA, NHDES, and our diligent statewide water operators offers a chance for community members to tour their local water treatment facility and expand their understanding of this critical and engaging utility!

Visit the NHWPCA's Clean Water Week page to see a list of participating facilities and tour dates here: https://nhwpca.org/Clean_Water_Week_2026

Another NEWEA Annual Conference & Tradeshow in the books and not even a massive snowstorm could slow it down! As usual, the hardworking folks at NEWEA organized another seamless tradeshow with an abundance of sessions, roundtables, events, and opportunities to build connections, plus a showing of "Unless Something Goes Terribly Wrong," the documentary spotlighting the Portland WWTF! We also observed such a willingness from others throughout the conference to step up and volunteer their time if a session moderator or coordinator was absent due to the weather. This really highlighted the fact that we’ve got a great group of people in our New England water community!

We had plenty of familiar faces stop by our exhibitor booth to chat and catch up, and that's always one of the best parts of the show. We were also awarded a plaque commemorating our ten years of participation at the annual NEWEA Conference, which was such a thoughtful surprise. Here’s to another ten years, and we will see you all at the spring show!
