🌿🪶 COMMUNITY BIOBLITZ & BOTANICAL SURVEY AT INDIAN CANYON 🪶🌿

Calling all plant lovers, restoration nerds, species spotters, ecological stewards, basket weavers, curious beings, and community members who want to deepen relationship with land and biodiversity. Join us for a day of learning, documenting, surveying, culture sharing, and joyful geeking out together at Indian Canyon.

“Culture sharing is vital, as we connect to community recognizing all sacred living systems—the plants and animals are the first people, connecting to each other and grounding on the land.” — KSR

We deeply appreciate everyone investing time, energy, skill sets, and care into understanding and protecting the ecological diversity of Indian Canyon. This is part of honoring truth in history, being in right relationship with land, and becoming good ancestors-in-training together.

Happy to catch a selfie back stage with of the with in Yelamu Ramaytush Ohlone Territory.

Still smiling from gathering at the Metro Theater this past week. 🪶✨ So many good conversations, beautiful artists, community selfies, laughter, and moments of connection that filled my heart in the best ways.

And honestly… if we can celebrate music, activism, and solidarity on these stages, then surely we can also spare a few moments to uplift the Indigenous peoples whose homelands we’re gathering upon. 😉 Yelamu exists within Ramaytush Ohlone Territory, and contemporary Indigenous peoples are still here doing the work, protecting culture, protecting land, and trying to make sure truth in history has a microphone too.
The Association of Ramaytush were given the opportunity to speak to the community, hands lifted in appreciation to the Indigo girls advocating for Indigenous peoples speaking for themselves ---Nothing about us Without us.

Representation and access matter. If we have platforms, privilege, audiences, resources, or even just a social media account and a little courage, we should be leveraging those spaces to raise awareness for Indigenous issues wherever we live, work, travel, organize, or celebrate. Local tribes deserve visibility. Neighboring Tribal Nations deserve support. Diversity is not scary ... it’s literally what makes community stronger.

It was beautiful seeing so many people show up with good hearts, open minds, and solidarity energy. Let’s keep lifting each other up louder, more intentionally, and maybe with just a tiny bit less pretending Native peoples only exist in history books. 🫶🏽🔥

There’s something powerful about being in a space where story, land, and spirit come together; where Indigenous voices are uplifted and our histories are honored in a living, breathing way.

These moments remind me that our stories are not just from the past...they are present, they are evolving, and they are guiding us forward as good ancestors in training.

Thank you to everyone who showed up in a good way, held space, and shared in the energy of connection and remembrance.

Grateful for moments like this 🫸🏽🫶🏽🫷🏽🙌🫶🏽🪶

Honored to share space, smiles, and a photo with and Alannah Acaq Hurley, a powerful Indigenous leader and awardee of the Goldman Environmental Prize.

It was a beautiful opportunity to welcome an Indigenous relative from Alaska onto Yelamu Ramaytush Ohlone Territory, grounding in respect, protocol, and the understanding that when we arrive to a place, we acknowledge the original peoples and the living history of that land. Also took photos with

Her work protecting salmon homelands and mobilizing Indigenous nations is a reminder that land stewardship is not just advocacy, it is responsibility, relationship, and obligation carried across generations.

At the same time, I’m holding a truth that needs to be said: spaces this large and global still have room to grow. When gatherings uplift Indigenous leadership, there is also a responsibility to honor the land they are taking place on. Recognition is a starting point, and action is the path forward.

Still, I’m grateful for the connections, the conversations, and the shared commitment to protecting our Earth and our futures.

Honoring that we gathered for the Harambee Annual Conference on the ancestral and unceded homelands of the Yelamu, the Ramaytush Ohlone people. Hanging with

Feeling grateful to be on Ramaytush Ohlone lands, connecting with so many amazing community members and reconnecting with a familiar face from the Leadership Spring fellowship community. There’s something powerful about seeing those threads continue, relationships growing across time and space.

The drumbeat, the songs, the movement, all of it a reminder that culture is alive. Song, dance, and ceremony are not just expressions, they are responsibilities that keep the Earth in balance, that carry memory, that sustain us forward.

Harambee, all pull together, feels real in these moments. Community, rhythm, presence.

Moving beyond acknowledgment into connection, into action, into shared care for one another and for the land.

RoamingOhlone let's you know about

🌊✨ Honoring Ancestral Waters ✨🌊

Our waters hold memory. They carry teachings, relationships, and responsibilities that Indigenous peoples have upheld since time immemorial.

I had the honor of collaborating with the MPA Collaborative to support cultural sensitivity and cultural awareness trainings for State Parks, marine protectors, and partner agencies... bringing forward Indigenous perspectives and local knowledge from the peoples of this territory. This work is about more than inclusion, it is about restoring balance and ensuring stewardship is guided by those who have always been in relationship with these ecosystems.

📘 There is a free resource available to all: the Ancestral Waters booklet. It uplifts Indigenous voices, values, and practices connected to marine spaces, and offers a pathway toward more respectful and informed stewardship:
https://www.mpacollaborative.org/project/ancestralwaters/

🌀 Even the word abalone reflects this deep connection. It comes from the Rumsen Ohlone language, reminding us that language carries place-based knowledge and ancestral ties to the ocean:
https://www.rumsenohlone.com/happenings/aulun-ohlone-abalone

When we learn the origins, when we listen to the first stewards, we begin to shift how we show up in relationship with land and water.

Honor the past to shape the future. 🌿
