We’ve been asked many times how MVP Plan Administrators, Inc. It seems a challenge to answer at times, telling the story of just MVP or the story of how MVP started on the most tragic day in American history. Kelly Musico, Mark Vaughn and Michele Powell, the founders of MVP, met through business relationships. Being honest, we previously worked in an environment that when stories are told about ou
r experiences they are almost unbelievable. So we chose to move on and set out to establish our own business. As you can see, “MVP” was taken from our last names and from our humble beginnings in Kelly’s basement, MVP was open for business on September 11, 2001. That day started out as a new beginning for us personally and professionally, fueled by our excitement and determination to create our vision of being a leader in 401(k) plan administration. We began that day strategizing our business, how to develop our vision and become an industry leader. We ordered computers and software, discussed marketing and ways to get our future clients to trust in us (as we had no clients on our first day!). As the morning developed, we began hearing of the tragic news and events of September 11, 2001. As with many of our fellow Americans, our focus shifted from our new beginning to mourning. An announcement that we were open for business no longer seemed important. Driven by our American spirit and pride, we were determined to move forward with America and not let a date be a reflection of who we are. We knew that with our combined experience and our collective vision of using technology, we would succeed. America is the greatest country in the world, and MVP is proof of what can be achieved. We kept pace and self-funded MVP. We finally did make the announcement that we were open for business. Our first clients were those that knew us personally and believed in our experience and commitment to provide quality services. Soon, those initial relationships led to others as we earned our reputation as an industry leader in the retirement industry. We have a few mementos in our office that serve as a reminder of our humble beginnings: an American Flag, a deck of UNO playing cards (which is now artwork), and a picture of our first assistants, Kelly’s cats Buddy, Bosco and Sissy, who “worked” alongside us in the basement. Today, 12 years later we are still passionate and driven to be the best, but now with a team of MVP’ers, (18 of us) and we also now have offices. What sets us aside from others is not only our knowledge and experience but our personal touch for client satisfaction. We take every opportunity to learn and find better and improved ways to serve our clients. Customer service is a top priority. Our client’s feedback and satisfaction are always foremost. We are committed to provide personalized, quality services. That was our vision from the beginning and remains so today. We truly do try to affect our industry and not just let it affect us. We are innovators and in an industry where service is the product, we are now venturing into providing an actual product as well. We are excited about what lies ahead and we think an opportunity like Small Business Big Game, might help us get to the next level.
