Congratulations to Andrew Scott Bell โ12, recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award!
Andrew Scott Bell is an accomplished film and television composer whose music has brought stories to life on screens around the world. After studying classical orchestration, music theory, and composition at Christopher Newport University, he pursued a career in film scoring that has led to nearly 100 film and television projects since 2009.
Now based in Los Angeles, Andrew earned early recognition when his score for the short film Rocket received a Student Academy Award. Since then, he has composed music for productions including NBCโs ๐๐ค๐ข๐ ๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐ค๐ข๐ from Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay, Lionsgateโs ๐๐ค๐ฌ๐๐๐ง ๐๐ช๐ฅ, Lifetimeโs ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐๐๐ค ๐๐ฉ๐ค๐ง๐ข ๐พ๐๐๐จ๐๐ง, the internationally recognized ๐๐๐ฃ๐ฃ๐๐-๐ฉ๐๐-๐๐ค๐ค๐: ๐ฝ๐ก๐ค๐ค๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ค๐ฃ๐๐ฎ films, and ๐๐๐ฃ๐ค๐๐๐๐๐ค: ๐๐ฃ๐จ๐ฉ๐ง๐ช๐ฃ๐.
Known for blending the richness of classical orchestration with contemporary cinematic scoring, Andrew is also a talented multi-instrumentalist who records many of his own instrumental performances, bringing depth and emotion to his compositions. In 2021, he was commissioned to compose an opera based on Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wieselโs acclaimed play, ๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ก ๐ค๐ ๐๐ค๐, which premiered that November.
