Just finished my 30 minute Hospitality Block. Got 10 personal cards written to clients: birthday, congrats, sympathy, and thinking of you. Lesson: Take the time to acknowledge your clients, prospect, community leaders— and anyone making a difference. This also makes you more memorable. It only takes 30 minutes a week to impact 500 people a year!

How often do we as financial advisors assume that clients won't want to meet with us in the summer, or that they'd prefer to wait until the fall to think about their financial plans? What if this is the summer you approached your practice differently? And more deliberately? Read here for some great ideas:

As advisors, we often assume summer means fewer meetings, delayed decisions, and clients who are too busy enjoying life to focus on financial planning. I've learned that summer isn't necessarily slower—it just creates different opportunities for the advisors who are paying the most attention.

I'm not one to use sports references in my coaching, but I couldn't resist talking about Opening Day in baseball, and how it ties to our work as advisors. Read here for some inspo:

Opening Day in baseball starts the same way every year: every team is 0–0. For financial advisors, this is the perfect reminder that whether last year was a record breaker or a disappointment, success comes from showing up, practicing the fundamentals, and doing the work this season. ⚾

Take a moment to remind yourself about the importance of starting your day off right: waking up at a consistent time each morning, creating a routine that works for you: journaling, meditation, devotions, a quiet coffee in bed before the kids wake up, a great workout, (NOT emails! Too much cognitive load), and ideally adding in a healthy breakfast (unless you’re a fan of intermittent fasting). Building consistency into the first 1-2 hours of your day sets the tone for how you intend the rest of the day will go.

Yesterday I was at a conference. On the left was my breakfast, and on the right was what the guy next to me chose for his.

Choices matter. Even the little ones. The many decisions we make (positive and negative) send reinforcing messages to our brain and our body, all day long.

You take care of a lot of people. This is a friendly reminder to not forget to take care of yourself.

In case you need to hear this today: You deserve a life filled with health, happiness, and vitality. Maybe today is the day you move yourself, and your own well being, a little higher up on your priority list.❤️💪🏼

An important lesson from this little plant:

In September, I was throwing away all the dead flowers from my outdoor flower boxes. But this pink daisy was still in bloom and I couldn’t let her go. Instead, I took her inside, repotted her, and placed her near the window in the sunshine.

It’s February and 8 degrees in Massachusetts where I live. This daisy has been blooming all winter. On gloomy days, she occasionally closes up. On sunny days, she leans toward the rays and stands strong and tall. She’s bigger and brighter than ever.

I think about all of us in this business when I look at this plant. Don’t we all need to lean in, and get closer to the things that shine light on us? Yes, sometimes we close up on gloomy days. That’s understandable. Our job is not easy.

Today I want you to see these bright blossoms and remind yourself to put yourself in places where you’re surrounded by people who bring you light.

Even more important, let’s keep being the light for others. 💪🏼❤️ ☀️

I’ve always insisted I’m not a runner—but what if my story about myself isn’t true? This month’s reflection is about redefining what we’re capable of when we stop labeling ourselves and start running our own race.
