🚨❄️Moderate to heavy lake-effect snow is dominating NE Illinois this afternoon, including the Chicago area. Snow may fall at rates of 0.5–1 inch per hour, with some locations accumulating 2–5 inches or more if this persists for a few more hours. Roads will be slick; visibility can drop quickly. If you must travel, allow extra time, drive slowly, and monitor updates for snow totals, closures, and school delays.❄️🚨

Here is the latest model runs for Tuesday showing what they think where the snow will lay out over our region and a estimate of amounts which do change between models. This will be a very wet snow in our area and south of I-80 could see a wintery mix which would bring down snow totals. Wind will be an issue with this system. This may change, but not by much. I will keep you updated.

STRONG WIND GUSTS will accompany Tuesday's storm system, perhaps exceeding 40mph at times. Where snow is falling, travel very be very difficult. Now would also be a good time to get those outdoor holiday decorations down!

(10:30PM Tue, Jan 24th 2023) Tuesday night update regarding a winter storm that will continue to affect the state through Wednesday evening, bringing light to moderate accumulating snowfall to much of Illinois. With this update we have increased expected snowfall totals a bit over portions of Southern Illinois, as confidence grows in the expected outcome.

​Timing & Location...
•Tonight - Wednesday evening, Jan 24-25th: Much of Illinois.

Impacts...
•A winter storm is expected to bring periods of snow to the state, tonight through Wednesday evening, Jan 24-25th. Mixed precip is expected across Southern Illinois.
•Snowfall accumulation will range from upwards of a 1-3" to 4-7", from north to south across the state. Locally higher snowfall amounts will be possible in the heaviest snowfall axis.
•Travel will be impacted, especially across the southern half of the state where highest snowfall accumulation will occur.

Folks, the models will still change in the next 24 hours, the newest trend by the GFS has increased snow amounts, but all models continue to show a serious storm with dangerous and life threatening cold. Blizzard conditions are still on the table with white out conditions which may make driving impossible, and winds up to 55mph causing snow drifts of 3ft or higher across the roads. Take this storm seriously.

Here is a comparison of the last GFS model and the new run which is showing an increase to snow fall. (Will County 7 to 10 now).This is a new trend from the past few model runs, let see if it goes back up:) I might need a Dramamine, lol
