We did not have much, but we had standards. Clean clothes, full plates, and good manners were our pride. It was a different kind of wealth.
Those values shaped how we saw ourselves. They still feel like the right measures of success. We did more with less, and it felt like enough. The simplicity was not a sacrifice, it was a gift.
That perspective is still worth keeping. Even now, I catch myself longing for that simplicity and the calm it brought.
