We like to keep the envelope in one piece. That's how we keep our infiltration numbers low.

So, where does that leave room for the heating and cooling system?

Now, this isn't going to work well if you're 6'6" and have 8' ceilings. But what about 9' ceilings?

This approach is not for every project, but for this one - it worked into the design well.

When we are dealing with a low load home, we often use ducted mini splits and this is a great use of space for us.

We had a great training session yesterday with Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity!!

Many volunteers, who devote their time for such a great cause, were able to witness a pre-drywall blower door test. The process was eye opening for some, and now they can better plan and sequence air tightness in to the homes they build.

Matt Bowers and Jonathan Finewood were on-site to lead the way in identifying air leaks in the envelope.

The house was nearly passing code levels of air tightness without any drywall on the walls when we were done. The final test will be a slam dunk!

When optimizing a detail for a client, we can do it fast and easy. FLIXO has the ability to grab specific objects and move them in and out so we can reach our desired parameters instantly.

Do we really need 8" of mineral wool on this parapet detail to achieve an fRsi of 0.75?

No - we only need 2"!

Being able to isolate and move certain objects together when we are refining a detail saves us time. It took me longer to type out this post than it did to set up the parameters of the model.

On this particular detail (and countless others), we saved the project a lot of upfront carbon, labor and material before the job even started.
