Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard welcomed P-82, a new 175-ton heavy-lift portal crane and the shipyard’s first crane delivery in over 20 years.

Part of a $349 million NAVFAC Atlantic contract, P-82, is a major component of Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program - SIOP line of effort to modernize industrial plant equipment at the Navy’s four government-owned and -operated shipyards to support the maintenance and modernization work that returns ships and submarines to sea.

The arrival of this heavy-lift asset is timed with the Navy's historic construction of Dry Dock 5 — the yard's first new graving dock built since World War II, which our very own OICC PHNSY team manages and oversees construction of the dry dock and its supporting infrastructure in coordination with Navy organizations, contractors and other project partners.

From September 25–27, dedicated volunteers staffed the interactive booth during "America's Air Show” and spent the weekend mentoring students, engaging families, and sharing their excitement for STEM careers.

Dry Dock 5 (P-209) Construction Progress Update | September 2026

Officer in Charge of Construction Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (OICC PHNSY) shares that the team placed 1,860 cubic yards of concrete 40 to 60 feet underwater and installed more than 5,500 pounds of reinforcing steel nearly 80 feet underwater for a concrete slab in the pump well, which will help remove water from the dry dock.

Along the west quay wall, crews drove steel piles more than 100 feet long, nearing completion of pile driving for the wall. Crews continue placing concrete for the crane rail grade beams that will support future crane operations along the waterfront.

The fire water pumphouse and tank slabs are complete, supporting the dry dock’s future fire protection system. Prefabricated tilt-up construction of the sewer water lift station is standing, allowing roof work to begin ahead of schedule. Four of the project’s 10 tilt up structures now have concrete walls and roofs in place.

The second temporary concrete batch plant is now certified to support upcoming construction of the dry dock walls.

Overall, the collective P-209 team had a great month, directly contributing to future Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Fleet Foundry readiness.

🐾 A major boost for base security at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH)! 🌅

Team NAVFAC Hawaii has officially completed construction on the new P-955 specialized facility at Kaneohe Bay. This modern structure is designed to enhance overall installation security and support critical daily operations.

To mark the milestone, officials commemorated the opening with a traditional maile lei untying ceremony on Sept. 23. 🌿✨
