Our Hawaiʻi Tech Week session has one prerequisite: none.

"I'd come, but I don't code." You don't need to. That's the point.

We replaced a report that ate 25 hours a week across our portfolio, and nobody on the team is an engineer. The build took a few tries. Some of it we still check by hand.

That's the version Kin's showing on September 4. Not a polished product pitch. The actual build, including the parts that broke.

If one recurring report on your team lives inside one person's spreadsheet, come sit in.

Thanks again to Hawaiʻi Tech Week for putting this week together. Worth browsing the full lineup.

Friday, September 4, 4:00–5:00 PM HST
Ilima Hotel, Waikīkī. Free, 40 seats.

Budget isn't what separates the teams getting real work out of AI. Picking one painful task is.

Ours was a report someone rebuilt by hand every Monday, once per hotel. 25 hours a week.

We built it as software instead. Claude Code, no developers, no dev budget.

September 4 I'm showing the whole build live at Hawaiʻi Tech Week, including what I still don't trust it to do without a human checking the work.

No code experience needed. No hotel experience either.

Fri Sept 4, 4–5 PM HST. Ilima Hotel, Waikīkī.

Oregon has a publicly accessible coastline from California to Washington.

The Cascade Mountains. The Willamette Valley wine region. And a Portland food scene Jason Brandt calls truly unparalleled.

The smartest hotel operators in Oregon aren't just selling rooms. They're selling all of it.

New hire starts Monday. No plan in place.

Stephanie Leger, founder of First Rate Hospitality and former Forbes Travel Guide inspector, has seen it a hundred times. The manager says someone will pick them up after orientation. Nobody shows. The new hire gets thrown to a different trainer every day.

Her take: onboarding sets the first impression for the employee, not just the guest.

If you want staff who stay and actually deliver great service, be proactive before day one.

We're demoing at Hawaiʻi Tech Week, and the subject is a report that was eating 25 hours a week.

Thirty minutes per property. About 50 properties. Every Monday.

So we built it as software instead. No engineers, no dev budget.

It's a live pace report now, and our revenue managers use it to price rooms across the whole portfolio instead of one property at a time.

On September 4, Kin Sio walks through the full build. What it replaced, how we scoped it, and what we still don't trust without someone checking the work.

Thanks to for the slot. There's a full week of sessions across Honolulu if you're building anything here.

Melissa Benhaim spent her first winter at Four Seasons in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

All six months of it.

When a transfer came up to Miami, she took it. Ended up in the marketing department. Found her calling in PR.

That operations foundation, making beds, working the spa, answering guest questions on the front lines, is exactly what makes her different from every other PR consultant hotels work with.

Google gives you a ranking. AI gives you a verdict.

Nick Slavin, CEO of Curacity, puts it simply: bad SEO still gets you on page six of Google. Bad AI visibility means you don't exist at all.
No ranking. No second chance. Binary.

That's the shift most hotels haven't started preparing for yet.

We're excited to welcome Ryan Lerner to Lights On as our new Senior Director of Commercial Strategy.

Ryan brings nearly 15 years of Revenue Management experience, with independent and big brand experience at the hotel and regional level. Most recently, Ryan spent the last few years leading the Revenue function for OUTRIGGER's Kona and Kauai resorts, guiding both through major renovations and posting some of their strongest RGI results in over a decade. Before Hawaii, Ryan spent nearly 8 years in Dubai, where he gained his international experience driving revenue results and collaborating with diverse teams for hotels across 7 different countries.

He's exactly the kind of operator our clients need: someone who's run the full commercial picture, not just one slice of it.

Welcome aboard, Ryan. We're happy to have you on the team.

The first two guitars Hard Rock ever hung on a wall were gifts, not memorabilia.

Eric Clapton handed one over so the bar would always save him a stool. A few weeks later Pete Townshend sent his: "mine's as good as his."

That was 1971. Nobody planned a music empire. It started with a barstool.

Sean Dee helped rebuild that brand 30 years later.
