Why are dryer vent termination screens so dangerous?

Most home owners might think putting a wire screen on the termination of a dryer vent would be a great idea to prevent pests from entering the home. However, screens cause significantly more harm than they do good. Screens prevent lint from exiting the dryer vent and will cause lint to build up on it overtime. In some cases, rain can also harden up the lint making the situation even worse. Once compacted, the lint covered screen causes a full blockage with zero airflow through the vent. This presents a huge fire hazard!

😳We ran across the most clogged dryer vent we’ve seen yet. We went through 2 lint catch bags during the cleaning and filled an entire trash bag with lint. We are happy to have been called out when we were as this was a huge fire hazard!
