Recently I’ve found myself musing (quite often) about the messed up scale we, as a society, have created when it comes to “success” and ”worth”. As I sat in the drive thru to pick up my 5th breakfast sandwich of the week, I’d think “it’s sad that fast food workers are not regarded with the same respect and honor as a business owner, doctor, etc.”. I’d then think about the lessons my parents taught me:

Everyone has value.

No matter the background, the title (or lack thereof), or amount in the bank….every person is worthy of respect, honor, and dignity. What would our world look like if we stopped revering titles and celebrated character instead.

Sadly, this conundrum isn’t just job based. We have a sliding scale for appearance and abilities as well. Why?

Every. Person. Is. Worthy.
Every. Person. Adds. Value.

I’m so grateful that there’s hope for change. There’s so many who share these feelings. So many who daily work to change the conversation. So many who strive tirelessly to make sure others see their worth.

I’m so grateful for Angelina Jackman and Living Innovations in Maine for being a voice in the void. For standing up for every man (and woman and child) and helping them to stand for themselves.

This afternoon I spent a little over an hour in a gymnasium along with about a dozen other professionals, our backgrounds and work varied and wonderful. We were all there for one purpose.
To share who we are, what we do, and to inspire others. (I’m grateful for each one who came to share.)

I didn’t have many at my table, but each and every encounter made an impact for myself. I loved seeing the light in someone’s eyes as I shared my story and perspective. I saw relief settle softly on a girls’ shoulders when I told her that big dreams don’t have to be overwhelming. That it’s okay to start small, and to dream big. We talked about how everyone in that gym was at one time her age and also overwhelmed. I saw her eyes travel across the gym and sparkling with possibility.

I’m so very thankful to this small town full of big hearts.
Whenever I get weighed down with the negative thoughts on social class and weighing worth, I just remember that the lies might be loud, but the truth whispers through every action, every consideration, and every connection that regular people are making every day.

So let me end with this: You matter.
No matter your title. Your bank account. Your past. And the list could go on. You matter.

And no dream is too far away. Just looking around that gym and seeing what others have accomplished, breathed hope and encouragement and I hope these musings will breathe that hope for you.

That’s all.

I tend to drag my feet after an event to do any post to share and show and shout out to all of our sponsors. The reason I do this is because I want to make sure I put a lot of thought and care into it because they deserve that. Everyone who helped with this event took their time, put their heart into it and it shows. And I just don’t like to rush it.

So it will be a few days more before I do the official recap post however I want to give a big thank you to our genius behind the scenes who created all of the yummy food that we enjoyed Thursday night. To say it was iconic was an understatement. The cornflake nuggets we’re so amazing. There was not even a crum # left at the end.

Cara Weaver of Sweet Pea's Pantry thank you thank you thank you for creating an iconic spread that is still being talked about.

If I try to express my gratitude for all of our individuals and businesses who have sponsored to make tonight possible, I would run out of space.

In fact, Facebook would not let me post my original one for this because they said that I tagged too many people. 🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ TRUE STORY

That tells you how many were involved in the making up tonight and that’s only appropriate because isn’t a person or even a particular group :it’s all of us. it’s the women of Aroostook County — and it’s all of the guys who are a good sport who help sponsor and contribute and do the manual labor, even though we won’t let them attend (despite a few of them joking that they look mighty good in a wig and heels.)

I will tag all of our sponsors down below with the exception of Bastions Tavern. They go right here because they are where we will be tonight at 6 o’clock. We are so grateful for them for opening their doors to us for this private event and more so just for their love and heart for this community. We chose their location for tonight as a way to celebrate them and to thank them for going above and beyond last fall when they provided extra seating and a warm space for our Pride and Prejudice girls night out - and they did it with less than 24 hours notice.

And to all of our sponsors, thank you thank you thank you. You are the reason tonight will be iconic. (See what I did there?)

One of my favorite parts of evenings like this is realizing how many women walk into the room from completely different lives, businesses, backgrounds, and perspectives — yet somehow share the same heart for growth, connection, creativity, and supporting one another. That’s powerful.

I especially loved getting the opportunity to present alongside Johanna Jo Johnston. I have such admiration for the work she does, her perspective, and the way she approaches both leadership and community with authenticity and purpose.

Conversations like ours remind me how important it is for women to connect with other women — not just for networking, but for encouragement, collaboration, learning, and reminding each other that none of us are building alone.

And honestly, while we were there to speak, I left learning just as much from everyone who attended. Thank you for the conversations, ideas, questions, laughter, and insight. I’m truly grateful to have been part of it. Aroostook Women's Network
