Hey Daddy James Boyd,This is your princess Rachelle Boyd-Huff, dropping you a note to share some thoughts, plain and simple, just how you like it.Thinking back, I remember you taking me to the field in my playpen while you were coaching. That was our thing, wasn’t it? You were always there, not missing a single school event or church activity or anything I was apart of. Man, you really showed me what it means to be there for someone. You didn’t just teach me to ride a bike, pray or serve others ; you taught me the big stuff - like how important it is to be kind, to forgive, and to love like Christ does. Those lessons are part of me now, shaping who I am and how I see the world and It didn’t stop with me. Jr, My kids, my husband, and my friends you’ve been a rock and support for them all too. Always ready with a piece of advice, a prayer, or just being there when we needed you most.Remember all those times you were by my side at doctor’s visits and hospitals? That meant the world to me. Walking me down the aisle on my wedding day, being my unwavering support through every high and low - I couldn’t have asked for a better dad .Towards the end, when things got tough, you trusted me to take care of you, to make those hard decisions and to be strong for both of us. I hope I made you proud. So, here’s my big thank you, Dad. For the sacrifices, for the unconditional love, for being my rock. I’m who I am because of you, and I’ll carry that forward, always. You may have taken your final walk, but your lessons, your love, and your legacy are right here with me, and they’re going nowhere. I’m gonna run with it. Love you forever and always,

Your daughter, Rachelle

Both grief and growth require stepping out of your comfort zone. Both require next level faith. Going through tough times is hard and often pushes us out of our comfort zones. It's like stepping into a really cold pool – shocking at first, but you gradually get used to it. This is similar to dealing with big changes or losses in our lives. It feels overwhelming and scary, and it's something you don't feel prepared for. But just like taking that first step into the pool requires a bit of bravery, so does facing our hardships. When life throws us curveballs, it feels like being stuck in a bad storm. Everything's a mess, and it's hard to see any good coming out of it. But, believe it or not, it's during these tough times that we actually grow the most. We learn a lot about ourselves, like how strong we really are or how to tackle problems better in the future.Deciding to face our problems head-on is like deciding to jump off a high dive. It's terrifying thinking about the jump, but once you do it, you realize it wasn't as bad as you thought, and you feel proud for having the guts to try. Growth is calling us to take that jump, to believe that things will get better, and to understand that every challenge is a step towards becoming a better version of ourselves.Remember, everyone goes through rough patches, so you're not alone. These experiences make us more connected to others and remind us that it's okay to be vulnerable and ask for help. Sure, the road ahead might look foggy, but there are moments of beauty and strength along the way that make the journey worth it.In simple terms, both the hard times and the process of getting through them teach us that after something bad happens, there's always a chance for something good to come out of it. We learn to stand up after we fall and find that we're a little bit stronger each time. So, let's keep our heads up and move forward, knowing that with a little courage and a lot of faith, we can get through anything and maybe even come out better on the other side.

In the past 7 weeks, I faced one of my toughest challenges yet, losing my Dad. As a Daddy’s girl, navigating this sudden loss felt insurmountable. Yet, his foresight in having his affairs orderly—through final expense and life insurance, and clearly communicated wishes—eased the burden of planning and handling what came after. He left behind not just memories but also notes, passwords, and clear instructions, underscoring the importance of those tough conversations. These preparations spared us financial strain and allowed us to focus on honoring his legacy. I urge everyone to not delay these crucial discussions; understanding your loved ones’ wishes and ensuring they are insured is paramount. Tips for Self-Care:
We understand that caregiving can be both rewarding and challenging. To support you on this journey, here are a few self-care tips to embrace in the coming year:

1. Prioritize Yourself: Remember, self-care is not selfish. Take time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation.

2. Seek Support: Reach out to fellow caregivers who understand your experiences. Share your stories and find strength in unity.

3. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate the victories, no matter how small. Each day is a testament to your strength.

4. Connect with Resources: Explore local support groups, workshops, or online forums to gain insights and resources tailored to caregivers.

Empowering Message for January:

"Embrace the new year with the same resilience you bring to caregiving. Your kindness and dedication make a difference every day. Remember that caring for yourself is as important as caring for others. You are not alone; we stand together as a community, supporting and uplifting one another."

This letter is a reminder to myself, a reflection of my journey as a caregiver and a pledge to myself for the coming year and beyond.

I have dedicated so much of myself to caring for others, putting their needs, health, and well-being above my own. My selflessness is admirable, but it's time to recognize that I, too, deserve that same level of care and attention.

I remember all the times I’ve made sure others were their best selves, taken their medications, dressed well, eaten properly, and felt empowered, I often neglected my own needs. So many hospitalizations, personal care set aside, opportunities forgone – it's time to acknowledge that these sacrifices have come at a cost to your own well-being.

In 2024, I promise myself : to love myself first. Show up for myself every day, treat myself with the same kindness and dedication I ‘ve shown others. I am being intentional in what I take on, careful not to overwhelm myself . Setting boundaries and standing by them, regardless of others' actions or expectations.

I will seek out things that make me happy and recognize my own value. It's time to love Rachelle the way she always deserved to be loved.

I will forgive myself for the times I ‘ve fallen short, for the moments I’ve hurt myself or allowed others to hurt me. I am human, and it's okay to make mistakes. Learn from them, grow from them, but don't let them define me.

As I move forward, I will remember the words of Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." this will be my mantra as I embark on this journey of self-love and self-care.

I am worthy…Worthy of love, care, and happiness. It's time to prioritize myself and embrace the joy and peace I’ve always deserved.

With love and empowerment,

Rachelle
