You've heard it: right person, right seat.

But how do you know when you have the RIGHT person in the WRONG seat?
Here's what it looks like:
They're great at some things. They model your values. They feel like a good cultural fit.
But...

• They're constantly stressed or disengaged with their current role
• Everyone seems frustrated working with them

This isn't a performance problem. It's a placement problem. And it's fixable.

Take a step back and think about your team individually. What are their actual strengths? What energizes them? Then look at what roles within your company need those specific skillsets.

Sometimes the best retention strategy is an internal move.

You don't need to:
1. Ghost them (unprofessional)
2. Write a novel explaining why (overthinking it)
3. Feel guilty for days (it happens)

You DO need to be: kind, clear, and concise.

Template:
"Thanks for taking the time to interview for [role]. We've chosen to move forward with another candidate. We appreciate your interest in our company and wish you success in your job search."

That's it. Two minutes. Hit send.

The candidate gets an answer. Your company maintains its reputation. You can move on to the next hire.

Rejection is part of the process - but radio silence shouldn't be.
