Afterglow Postpartum Care Supporting you through postpartum
Helping You Find Your Glow Again ✨ What is a postpartum doula and why do I need one?

Having a baby is only the beginning, not the end of something. It's the start of new lives coming together to build one happy family. It's a mother giving her undivided attention to a helpless little human being along with everyone else in her household. It's learning new skills, handling new emotions and providing new needs. Maybe she's done this before, but those things can change with each new

baby. I provide non-medical, non-judgemental support in the important days and weeks following delivery. This support is emotional and physical, as well as informational. I am there to help make this transition as easy as possible. Because self care isn't optional, it is a necessity. The International Childbirth Education Association describes the role of a postpartum doula as “mothering the mother.” (healthline.com)

Our duties expand to the whole family though; everyone will benefit. Taking care of yourself is giving a gift to your family.

I read something today that I can’t shake off.

A mom was found lifeless in her home in Phoenix.
No one had heard from her in days.
When the police came, they found her already gone.

On the bed near her was her newborn baby, still alive. She had been alone for days. No food. No care. No sound but silence.
And yet somehow… she survived.
And now, she’s slowly recovering.

I keep thinking about the mom.
Was she tired? Was she in pain? Was she silently calling for help?
Did she think she had to carry it all alone?

Because motherhood is truly a blessing but it can be full of invisible battles.
And sometimes, we check on the baby…
but forget to check on the mother.

So today, I just want to say to check in on the moms.
Not just when they look tired,
but even when they say “I’m okay.”

Especially then.

Because some moms are showing up with a full smile and an empty cup.
Some are giving everything they have and silently running out.

Motherhood is heavy.
We were never meant to carry it alone.

If you’re a mom reading this,
you’re allowed to ask for help and to rest.

And if you know a mom,
Text her.
Ask how she really is.
Let her know she’s not forgotten.

Haaaaay. 💔💔💔

Good morning💛
Can I share something that my husband actually learned about and implements daily?

Morning sunlight. ☀️
I know it sounds simple and maybe you have never heard of it! —but I try to also get out there and its helping me in this postpartum foggy time of life.

If you can get outside within the first hour or two after sunrise (like between 6:17–8:17 a.m. today), even for just 10–20 minutes, it can do more than you’d think:

✨ Calms the nervous system
😴 Supports more restful sleep (even if it’s broken)
🧠 Gently resets your hormones and internal rhythm
😊 Boosts serotonin—your natural mood lifter
🌿 Helps you feel just a little more grounded–( stick your feet in the grass to double that grounding)

Just step outside—no sunglasses, no windows—let the light hit your face. You can sit, stretch, nurse, drink coffee, or just breathe. Even with a baby in one arm and a toddler running circles around you if you have to.

It’s not a cure-all, but in a season where so much feels out of your control, this is one small thing that’s been helping me and if nothinf else... it's a calming way to start out the day!

I'm trying to make this part of my routine–who else loves morning sun? 💛 share!

A science direct article titled "The role of sleep protection in preventing and treating postpartum depression"

For women at high risk of PPD, or with moderate to severe PPD or other symptoms of mental illness, protecting one 4–5 hour period of consolidated nighttime sleep may be necessary and effective.

While a focus on improving postpartum sleep to address postpartum depression is relatively new in medical research, there are long established cultural traditions that view the postpartum as a time of increased maternal vulnerability benefiting from additional support to promote rest.

Many countries in East and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa have traditions of postpartum care, typically lasting from 1 to 3 months after childbirth.42 These are often considered vital for the new mother's health in the short and long term, as well as her ability to bond with the new baby, and typically include limiting physical activity, eating specific diets, staying warm, and receiving support from family members.

It's wonderful to see families grow and become confident and comfortable with their new baby. But even though I must move on, my heart hurts a little bit each time. 💕
