This 1000 SF mural at Hometown Heroes Park in City Of League City is coming along but still has a ways to go! After Kai and I finished the outlines, shadows and underpainting, we started laying down the big, bold, rhythmic brushstrokes that really bring the painting to life.

We started on the left side and have now begun working our way across, adding fish, rocks and water as we go.

It’s also time for me to say goodbye to Kai as they head off to college! They’ve been such a great help on this project, especially for their very first mural. 💕🎨🙌

Now it’s time for me to lock in, climb back on that lift, and see where all these brushstrokes lead me. 💙

I’m honored to have been selected as one of three Artists in Residence for League City, Texas!

I love seeing cities invest in public art, and I feel so grateful for the opportunity to partner with the City of League City to bring more beauty, creativity, and joy to our community through art events, classes, and murals.

I’ve especially enjoyed painting in the beautiful studio space the City has provided for us in Heritage Park. The natural light, peaceful atmosphere, and the company of my fellow Artists in Residence make it such an inspiring place to create.

I’m excited to work alongside delaney mcritchie and Jack M, share my artwork with the community, and give three FREE art classes through the City Of League City! Stay tuned for class dates and details!

IT’S NOT FINISHED! 😄

I’ve had so many people stop by and ask, “Is it done yet?”

Not even close! The underpainting is finally on the wall, which means we’re almost halfway there.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to create this mermaid mural for my local community at Hometown Heroes Park for the City Of League City and League City Parks and Recreation. One of my favorite parts has been seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and talking with everyone who stops to watch the mural come to life.

I’m also grateful for my new assistant Kai, Kai Newmyer, a talented artist who’s doing an incredible job on their very first mural!

My layered impressionist style isn’t the traditional way murals are painted, so here’s a peek behind the scenes:

🎨 Choose the wall and develop the concept
🎨 Create sketches and a digital mockup
🎨 Gather materials and rent the lift
🎨 Prep the wall (patch, scrape, prime)
🎨 Transfer the design
🎨 Paint in the shadows
🎨 Add the vibrant complementary-color underpainting (we just finished this step!)

Now comes my favorite part: building the final painting with layers of bold, colorful impressionist brushstrokes.

Over the next few weeks this mural will transform dramatically, so if you’ve been wondering why it looks a little wild right now…trust the process. 😊
