"Murray noted that polling in the gubernatorial race has been fairly stable.

That being so, he added, 'O’Rourke has to do one of two things: something that changes the perceptions of the existing electorate, to move things; or something to change the complexion of the electorate — meaning he has to get people to the ballot box who might not otherwise go there.'”

Beto O’Rourke faces a moment of truth on Friday. The former Democratic congressman is lagging behind Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) in the polls with less than six weeks before Election Day. In the Rea…

“While I think Beto is making the race competitive, actually winning is going to be a tall order,” Murray said. “There has to be a further shift in the national prospects for Democrats for a win to be possible.”

Democrats are seeing some reasons for optimism amid a grim political environment as they look at this year’s marquee midterm contests. Even as the party struggles with a plethora of problems — infl…

“If there are one or more candidates in the mayoral race next year who are trying to run as a more progressive alternative to Sen. Whitmire, then depending on how Ms. Cook does in this race, that might offer some lessons for them on how they want to prosecute their campaigns,” Murray said.

Whitmire drew a last-minute challenge from Molly Cook, an emergency room nurse and...

Nervousness “is pretty understandable under the circumstances,” said Murray. “The election was pretty close... We are still mired in COVID. And the economic & other societal effects of that have made the public at large pretty unhappy with the status quo.

Speculation has begun about the 2024 Democratic presidential ticket, almost three years before the election.
