Thinking of starting a business or turning your side hustle into something serious? Here's a bit of advice I wish more people heard sooner: get things set up in the right order.

One of the first steps I always recommend is opening a business bank account.

Why? Because it makes life SO much easier when it comes to getting paid — especially if you're working with larger or corporate clients. Many won’t send payments to a personal account, and it just doesn’t look professional.

Along with that, use a business phone number and a business address right from the start. It’s not just about looking the part — it protects your personal information and sets the tone for how you show up in the marketplace.

Here's the basic setup checklist I share with all my startup clients:

✅ Business phone number (a dual SIM works great)
✅ Virtual business address (to protect your home and boost credibility)

As someone who’s worked with startups, side hustlers, and growing businesses, I can’t stress this enough: separating your personal and professional life is key to showing up like a pro.

I use a dual SIM phone — one number for personal, one for business. It helps me stay focused, switch off when needed, and most importantly, maintain professionalism when answering client calls.
(“Hello?” just doesn’t cut it when a potential client is calling your business line.)

Let’s talk about something most people avoid… until it’s too late.

As a professional, it’s part of my job to have the difficult conversations — and I’ll say it loud and clear: GoFundMe is not an estate plan.

It is imperative that we continue to pour into the next generation.

Five years ago, I took the initiative to organize a Youth Conference in London, addressing a critical moment when knife crime was not just a headline, but a harsh reality. We delved into the root causes, engaged in hard-hitting discussions, and brainstormed solutions with a sense of urgency and hope.

Since that pivotal gathering, the canvas of the world has been repainted with broad strokes of change, yet the challenges facing our youth persist and, in some cases, have intensified. Issues like mental health have skyrocketed, with recent statistics indicating that one in six children aged 5 to 16 are identified with mental health problems, compared to one in nine in 2017.

We owe it to our future leaders to not only extend dialogues but also to take decisive action. Let's invest in resources, mentorship, and policies that nurture their potential. Can we afford to do any less?
