See you at in Houston! AAPG Society of Exploration Geophysicists

AAPG Women's Network is proud to sponsor one of the standout short courses at IMAGE '26 in Houston this August 🌍

SC-07: Effective Joint Venture Influencing: A Strategic Approach
πŸ—“οΈ Monday, 17 August 2026 | 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. CT.
πŸ“ George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston

Joint ventures are where some of the most valuable (and most complex) decisions in our industry get made. Yet influence in JV environments is rarely taught as a skill. This course changes that.

Led by Amalia Olivera-Riley of Subsurface Consultants & Associates, LLC (SCA), participants will work through real-life case studies and immersive role-play simulations to learn how to:

βœ… Strengthen operator influence around key value drivers
βœ… Focus engagement on the issues that actually move the needle
βœ… Build positive, productive partner relationships
βœ… Leverage the unique strengths every JV party brings to the table

It's a practical, results-oriented day built for geoscientists, engineers, land and commercial professionals, leaders, and students alike. Participants walk away with tools they can apply immediately, plus 7 Professional Development Hours (0.7 CEUs).

Investing in the influencing and leadership skills of our community is exactly the kind of value-add the AAPG Women's Network champions, and we're thrilled to support this course.

πŸ” Reservoir characterization is only as good as the geologic framework behind it.

For geoscientists working in exploration, development, and field optimization, understanding depositional systems and stratigraphic relationships is critical to predicting reservoir distribution and performance.

πŸ’‘SCA's Clastic Sedimentology, Stratigraphy and Reservoir Characterization with Core Workshop provides a practical approach to interpreting clastic reservoirs using well logs, core, and subsurface data.

Participants will learn to:
πŸ”Ή Interpret depositional environments and facies relationships
πŸ”Ή Apply sequence stratigraphy concepts to reservoir characterization
πŸ”Ή Predict reservoir distribution and connectivity
πŸ”Ή Analyze core and subsurface data to improve geologic interpretations

❗Accurate seismic interpretation depends on more than recognizing patterns - it requires understanding the geologic processes that create them.

Interpreters who can connect seismic observations to geologic context are better equipped to reduce uncertainty and make stronger subsurface decisions.

πŸ’‘Our three-day Applied Seismic Interpretation Workshop provides a practical framework for integrating seismic data with geologic interpretation.

Participants strengthen their ability to:
πŸ”Ή Recognize key seismic stratigraphic patterns
πŸ”Ή Interpret depositional environments from seismic data
πŸ”Ή Link seismic observations to geologic processes
πŸ”Ή Reduce uncertainty in subsurface interpretations

πŸ” Most subsurface maps fail for the same reason: the interpretation wasn’t rigorously tested.

Before you can trust a contour, a fault pick, or a prospect estimate, you need a workflow that exposes technical weaknesses early.

πŸ’‘SCA's Quality Assurance/Quality Control Skills in Subsurface Mapping (QAQC) course builds exactly that skillset through hands-on work with real datasets, students sharpen contouring, correlation, fault mapping, and QC, and leave with a repeatable method for evaluating interpretation quality.

Key capabilities you will build:
πŸ”ΉReviewing subsurface data with the right technical questions
πŸ”ΉTesting 3-D viability of maps and prospects
πŸ”ΉIdentifying over- or under-estimated resources
πŸ”ΉJudging whether interpretations follow sound geoscience principles

❗One of the fastest ways to derail formation evaluation is relying on isolated log responses without a disciplined interpretation workflow.

Strong open-hole log interpretation requires testing assumptions, integrating multiple measurements, and recognizing uncertainty early to improve reservoir understanding and subsurface decision quality.

πŸ’‘ SCA's Practical Interpretation of Open-Hole Logs course focuses on that exact practical discipline.

Participants build a repeatable interpretation workflow through hands-on exercises using real datasets, strengthening their ability to:
πŸ”Ή Recognize log responses across lithologies
πŸ”Ή Diagnose data-quality issues and tool limitations
πŸ”Ή Integrate multiple log types for stronger interpretations
πŸ”Ή Identify reservoir properties that matter for decisions
