Looking through these pictures, it is hard not to almost get a little emotional.
What happened yesterday was much more than a Labor Day event. It was our members sitting together with their children and grandchildren. It was old friends catching up, new friendships beginning, and generations of Local 68 families sharing a meal together.
That is what this union means to us.
To our members, your families, our friends, our brothers and sisters in labor, and the elected officials who stopped by, thank you. You could have spent your day anywhere, and you chose to spend part of it with the Plumbers Local Union 68 family. That means more to us than we can put into words.
Thank you to the Smokin’ 68 Cook Team for feeding everyone and giving us another meal we will be talking about for a long time. A very special thank-you goes to our head cook, Andy Martinez. Andy, you give so much of yourself to this event. Your hard work and the pride you put into every plate never go unnoticed.
We also need to thank our union officers. Every year, they quietly handle the planning, the phone calls, the shopping, the setup, the problems nobody else ever sees, and the cleanup after the last person leaves. They do it because they love this Local and the people in it.
Yesterday reminded us that Local 68 is not held together by a building, a contract, or a union card. It is held together by people who show up for one another.
On behalf of the officers of Plumbers Local Union 68, thank you for giving us another Labor Day we will never forget. Seeing our union family together, laughing, eating, and enjoying one another reminded us exactly why we do this work.
We are proud to serve you. We are proud to stand beside you. Most of all, we are proud to call you family.
