August is Black Business Month! Join .cargle / and for a very special Office Hours on THURSDAY, AUGUST 25th at 7 pm ET / 6pm CT.

For generations, people in the United States were taught that the key to economic stability was land ownership. But how do we properly conceptualize ownership of land in a country where a colonizing government robbed it from Indigenous people?

Furthermore, how do we reconcile the relationship between Black Americans and the land repeatedly stolen from them in the generations after Emancipation by that same government?

Using the stories of Freedom Colonies and Black farmers, we will explore these questions and discuss connections between historical Black enterprise and land.

Yes, I took an extended autumn/winter break, but I’m back in action & ready to tackle new projects for 2022. I admit that Instagram is not my favorite platform at all: It takes a lot of time to post constantly & create stories/reels in order to beat the algorithm. But I aim to be more present here this year. 😁 I look forward to connecting with you all & continuing to advocate for history & preservation. Let’s unlock some legacies together!
