Please forgive this late post! Congrats to Boot Camp attendee, Mike Gust, who was recently with us at ABC for our Pet Care Management course. We had an amazing time getting to know Mike, and our time with him flew by! He and his wife are excited about their pet facility project and have done the hard prep-work of learning all they could BEFORE they took on their new adventure. We feel sure they will be a raging success and the community will absolutely love their professionalism and care of the pets. Thanks for letting us be a part of your journey!

With the continuing growth of new pet care facilities being opened around the U. S., there is a real need for a training program for potential pet industry business owners. A real place, not a website, where they can get facility management training so they can open their new businesses with confidence, knowing they are following best practices for professional pet care.

Since 1991, my husband Al & I have owned and operated ABC Pet Resort. I was the General Manager of ABC, and Al continued running his Design/Build Construction Company - Turnkey, Inc. My mother was correct when she told me before our wedding that I would be glad that I was marrying a builder, and she was right! Because of Al’s guidance with the business end of ABC and the building of our new & improved ABC Pet Resort in 1995 , we have been blessed with a fun and profitable business. But I must brag that because of my background working for a veterinarian and my determination to purchase the very old and failing ABC Pet Grooming & Boarding, Al was suddenly sought-after to design and build other pet facilities around Houston. What a fantastic job he’s done since 1996! To date he’s built over 16 pet centers and vet clinics in the Houston area and designed over 70 pet centers around the nation.

Along with that, Al & I have also been consulting in this industry with “newbies” for over 20 years and have been privileged to be a part of so many wonderful ventures. We’ve continued speaking regularly for industry conferences and were happy to be asked to be the Keynote Speakers at the 2007 Pet Industry of Australia Association conference in Cairnes, Australia. (A dream job!)

At ABC, we’ve been hosting most of Al’s design/build clients for years to come in and train with our staff for a day or two and we were happy to help. This was always considered as a “value added” service for using Al! After many years, we came to the realization that an expanded hands-on training is such a necessity for start-up businesses and is sorely lacking in our in industry. We are proud now to announce our new venture - ABC Pet Care Facility Management Boot Camp. We hope it will be an asset to our industry to “grow” knowledgeable and professional pet care providers.
