During 2020's Racial Revelation, corporations pledging what amounted to $60 BILLION in financial support and initiatives to combat , support Black communities and businesses, and promote (as tracked by the McKinsey Institute for Black Economic Mobility) populated our timelines. Our phones rang around the clock with leaders looking for solutions.

It was a heightened time for all of us.

But when organizations like Baker Tilly US and people like Jeff Jorge came looking for an IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility) firm that would partner with them to create a sense of belonging for their teams, it was an honor to say yes. Thank you, Rosalyn Taylor O'Neale MSSW, Myla Watley, MPP, Shane Lloyd, MPH, Cory Schneider, LMFT, for your work on this project. What's equally as gratifying is when you see respected organizations like Hispanic Executive recognize the character and commitment of someone like Jeff Jorge.

In this interview with Hispanic Executive, Jeff takes us on a journey detailing his immigration path to the U.S. from Brazil, sparked by the movie E.T. This epic saga includes the challenges, triumphs, and feel-good ending of your favorite coming of age story. His unlikely path will not only inspire you but will also compel you to invest in the up-and-coming leaders in your network.

During , Cook Ross celebrates & honors the work of so many who, like Jeff, contribute to this nation and the world.

Thank you, Jeff and Baker Tilly, for choosing us to partner in your Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility journey.

Everyone thinks we’re in a DEI Renaissance, but not you. You know the deal. You’ve seen the ebbs and flows of performative outrage and the cyclical retreats to the status quo. Inclusion is expensive, and you understand from experience how much you’ve had to lobby for others to have a seat at the table. You are intimate with how much executives will risk to maintain their power.

You’ve come face to face with the debilitating anxiety, the acute grief, and the uncontrollable rage that comes with being a change agent inside of Corporate America. When Nikole Hannah-Jones said, “I refuse,” you felt that in your soul! You know that the burden of working for justice is laid on the very people bearing the brunt of the injustice and not the powerful people who maintain it.*

It’s clear to you that white supremacy is alive and well, but you aren’t fazed. You refuse to back down. Your commitment to this work isn’t based on the “success” of your efforts. You know that your efforts are tethered to the ancestral call to persevere. The money doesn’t sweeten the deal for you any longer. You’ve seen your peers burn out for the paycheck. You’re after something more significant.

You want to know that those facilitator/trainer skills you built in the 3-5 years of conducting virtual and in-person sessions will be used to transform organizations. You want to know that your thought leadership in diversity, equity, inclusion, and organization development and your motivation to complete work with excellence will be encouraged and valued. Stepping into another toxic workplace is not an option.

We couldn’t agree more. Come see us at Cook Ross. We’re home to passionate change agents, ex-corporate activists, and healing justice warriors who are reimagining tomorrow's work culture. We’re not a perfect place, but we offer benefits (like a 4-week sabbatical after working here 4 years) that will have you wanting to follow the yellow brick road. You’ve been a lone ranger for far too long. Join this team, and we’ll show you how much better we are together.

Fall is upon us. just dropped. is being debated in the group chat. You’re preparing to be King of that for the third year in a row. You just secured your +1 to that wedding.

Life is good. But there is one problem.

You hate your job. At first, the bag that they offered you was good enough to overlook the fact that you’re not THAT passionate about what you do. Now that the novelty has worn off, you feel like in Cleveland, the first time. Stuck. You spend every lunch break, late-night, and early morning on job boards, looking for a new position.

Then this one popped up!

You were excited. “This one sounds dope,” you said. You even pulled up the official website to look more into the position. But you didn’t apply. You’re afraid of switching squads. That’s normal. You thought you would be like and win at least ‘chip with your current team.

We get it.

However, YOU KNOW you’re a thought leader in diversity, equity, inclusion, and organization development. YOU KNOW that you are a skilled facilitator and/or trainer who has 3-5 years of experience conducting virtual and in-person sessions and is intrinsically motivated to complete work with excellence. YOU KNOW you would thrive here!

Listen, bro, you’ve outgrown that system your coach has you in. Come run with the winners. Greatness is upon you.

Stop playin’ and apply today: https://bit.ly/3DHIt7S

Yes, Derek Chauvin has been convicted of the murder of George Floyd.

However, the work is not done. The work of advancing race equity in the workplace has new legs, and many leaders are still not prepared to thoughtfully engage their teams on these important issues.

With that in mind, Falon Thacker, Ph.D., and Adriana B. Rojas, Ph.D. (she/her/Dr.) wrote a publication sharing what we’ve learned about employees' expectations when it comes to creating a truly inclusive workplace. Read it here: https://cookross.com/advancing-race-equity-research/

Our silence wasn’t complicity. We were watching, listening, checking in, checking ourselves, reflecting, unlearning, relearning, grieving, and lamenting. Anti-Asian violence is personal for us.

Of course, we wanted to say something, but we wanted to take our time. We wanted to be authentic. We wanted to be clear. With that in mind, we decided to let our people, the people who make our company what it is share their thoughts, their perspective.

Last week, our Senior Instructional Designer, Princess Clemente shared a narrative entitled “My Journey Breaking Through The Bamboo Ceiling." It teaches us that after spending so much time and energy shattering expectations that are placed on them, Asian women still have another barrier impeding their progress.

Today, one of our Project Managers, Khudai Tanveer has published a piece entitled “The Asian Monolith Myth." It sheds light on the dangerous and lazy grouping of 23M people (spanning 48 countries) into a 3 letter acronym. Read it here: https://cookross.com/blog/the-asian-monolith-myth-khudai-tanveer/

We hope that this API Heritage Month has been paradigm-shifting. Continue to learn about our neighbors from the East. We need each other now, more than ever.

Not only are Asian American women having to navigate not being killed while doing their jobs, but they are also spending extra energy making sure they present themselves in a way that doesn’t threaten their chances of manifesting their dreams.

In a personal narrative by our Senior Instructional Designer, Princess Clemente, we get an intimate understanding of why Asian American women, after shattering expectations, are still being stifled by a lesser-known, but just as powerful, barrier.

Head over to our website to read her story, My Journey Breaking Through the Bamboo Ceiling.

When was the last time you stopped to rest?

You don’t know?

Same here. We know it’s common for folks with personal accounts to take a break from media, but we believe that company accounts should too. After all, in most cases, a person is operating the said account. You and I both know easily this work can chew you up and spit you out if you are not committed to rest. Let’s normalize rest for everyone, okay, sis?

We are excited to share what we’ve been working on for the last few weeks! Be sure to check in with us tomorrow to learn more about our Salesforce Intern position.

P.S. Remember to schedule your rest. It probably will not happen otherwise.
