With the temperatures dropping and a hard freeze coming in early next week make sure you take steps to winterize your home some of these steps include the following. To winterize your home for a freeze, you can:
Insulate pipes: Use heat cable and pipe insulation to protect pipes in unheated areas like attics, crawl spaces, and garages.
Protect faucets: Keep a trickle of water running from faucets when temperatures drop below freezing to prevent pipes from bursting.
Install a programmable thermostat: A programmable thermostat can sense and adjust your home's temperature to help you save money on your heating bill.
Reverse ceiling fans: Turn ceiling fans clockwise in the winter to push warm air down and circulate it throughout your living space.
Clean gutters: Remove leaves and other debris from your gutters to prevent them from freezing and causing ice dams.
Check your chimney: Assess the condition of your chimney, which can be vulnerable to frost, snow, and high winds.
Inspect your roof: Check your roof for damage and make sure it's patched.
Secure windows and doors: Use deadbolt locks to secure your external doors and windows.
Check your alarm system: Make sure your alarm system is working.
Winterize your sprinklers and hoses: Take steps to winterize your sprinklers and hoses.
Winterize your plants and landscaping: Take steps to protect your plants and landscaping.
