PSA from a professional house cleaner:
One thing you’ll never hear me say to a brand-new client is, “We’ll just do a basic maintenance cleaning.”
I don’t care if you’ve had a weekly cleaner for years. Unless I’ve personally deep cleaned your home first, I won’t offer a quick maintenance clean.
Here’s why:
A maintenance cleaning is designed to maintain a home that’s already been brought up to a deep-clean standard. It isn’t meant to remove months of built-up soap scum, grease, dust, hard water stains, or grime.
For example, you can’t expect a bathtub that hasn’t been thoroughly scrubbed in six months to look brand new after a maintenance wipe-down. That’s simply not what a maintenance cleaning is designed to accomplish.
There’s another reason, too. Unfortunately, some people book the least expensive service, then post photos of areas that weren’t included or paid for and claim the cleaner was “lazy” or did a poor job. That’s unfair to both the client and the cleaner because expectations were never aligned from the beginning.
My goal is to leave your home looking the way I want my name attached to it. That means starting with a true deep clean, especially in high-traffic areas, so future maintenance visits actually maintain that level of cleanliness.
I truly believe this is one of the biggest sources of confusion in the cleaning industry. A maintenance cleaning maintains. A deep cleaning restores. Those are two very different services—and understanding that makes all the difference. ❤️
