Did you know that HHSC implemented new functionality on the Your Texas Benefits (YTB) website that allows people to add themselves to the Home and Community-based Services (HCS) and Texas Home Living (TxHmL) interest lists?
Your Texas Benefits is a website for Texans to apply for help, join an interest list for certain Medicaid waiver programs, or update their phone number and address on program interest lists they joined

BIG NEWS for Texas Families: TEFA Applications are NOW OPEN! 🚀

Today marks a milestone for educational choice in Texas. The Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) program is officially accepting applications for the 2026-2027 school year!

For the families we support, those navigating the world of disabilities or suspected disabilities - this program is a potential game-changer.

What you need to know:
✅ Priority for Special Education: Students with disabilities are a top priority for funding.
✅ Significant Support: While the standard award is around $10,400, students with a qualifying IEP may be eligible for up to $30,000 to cover specialized tuition, therapies, and services.
✅ Flexible Funding: Use these funds for private school, specialized tutoring, educational therapists, and more.

Don’t Wait! The application window is open from February 4th through March 17th.

Beginning February 4, 2026, parents can submit applications for the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program. Education freedom accounts are designed to open doors, expand opportunities, and give each Texas child the chance to learn in the environment that fits them best.

App Store Accountability Act

App store operators like Google and Apple will now be required to verify the age of users in Texas and get parental consent from parents before allowing minors to download an app.

The App Store Accountability Act requires age verification from all users and will prevent minors from downloading apps or making in-app purchases without parental consent from a connected account that has been verified.

Replacing the STAAR test in Texas

House Bill 8 replaces the STAAR test with three shorter tests given throughout the school year. One in October, a second in January, and then the third in the spring. The bill goes into effect Dec. 4 and students will take the new tests beginning next school year.
