Marketing Myth Stake #2: Do Nothing

Marketing is the life blood of every business. Many business owners have the "Build it and they will come" mentality. What if they don't come? They may have the greatest solution, the most delicious food, the best product everyone should have, but if no one knows who or where they are, they will eventually fail. All businesses experience attrition of customers/clients/patients those need to be replaced. Every business needs to market themselves, no matter how big or small. Amazon and Google market to me via direct mail!

Business owners need to quit "doing the thing" and start "marketing the thing." That's where transformation starts.

Since marketing a business is so important, we thought it would be informative to post the "12 Marketing Myth Stakes" that most business owners and operators make. They were first published in 2015 on the Restaurateur Academy website.

#1: Marketing a business that does not operate well. It seems obvious but it happens all the time. If your business operates poorly and doesn't exceed your customer/client/patients' expectations, then marketing only brings people in who experience how bad you are, and it will have the opposite effect. You will have negative referrals and reviews and people will stay away. Have excellent products/service FIRST then market, not the other way around.

Your Website is your Storefront, same as your Brick & Mortar Business. Why treat it differently?

In an ideal world, your visitors arrive at your website, they hang out for a few seconds/minutes, then they signup for something that you offer or they buy your product/services โ€“ You would HOPE, RIGHT!?

But what if they just leave? And you wonder, why would they do that?

Let me ask you this: IF they donโ€™t signup or buy from you then do you even know who visited your website?
When your visitors arrive at your website, you want them to stay for a while. However, the main objective would be to convert them into your customers. But what do you do when your website visitors leave your website without completing that main objective?

What would you do differently if Customers walked into your physical shop (Brick & Mortar) and kept leaving? Well, you would fix the issue right away, which could be firing of someone (if need be) or making other changes.

A website is your Storefront, same as your Brick & Mortar Business. Why treat it differently?

Systems need to be put into place to gather information and leads. You didnโ€™t pay your web designer to build you an online brochure, did you? Youโ€™re not paying them a monthly retainer to maintain that brochure, ARE YOU? If you are then STOP wasting your money!

Your website must be doing this on autopilot for YOU.

Collect Leads
Nurture them
Convert them to Customers
WOW them
Ask for referrals
