In a 2026 Karat study, 68% of hiring leaders said they trust hands-on skill demonstrations and real-time problem solving more than resume credentials or rehearsed answers.
The interview is moving from what you have done to what you can show.
In interview prep sessions, this is the gap we close most often. Clients arrive ready to recite accomplishments, then get caught when asked to think out loud or work a real problem.
A few things that help:
-Prepare to demonstrate, not just describe
-Practice thinking out loud so your process is visible
-Bring one or two problems you actually solved and rebuild the reasoning on the spot
Interview preparation is no longer about memorizing answers. It is about being ready to show your work.
