Holly recently talked about current hiring trends on . The skills-based hiring shift is worth preparing for.

In a 2026 Karat study, 68% of hiring leaders said they trust hands-on skill demonstrations and real-time problem solving more than resume credentials or rehearsed answers.

The interview is moving from what you have done to what you can show.

In interview prep sessions, this is the gap we close most often. Clients arrive ready to recite accomplishments, then get caught when asked to think out loud or work a real problem.

A few things that help:

-Prepare to demonstrate, not just describe
-Practice thinking out loud so your process is visible
-Bring one or two problems you actually solved and rebuild the reasoning on the spot

Interview preparation is no longer about memorizing answers. It is about being ready to show your work.

When working with our senior professional clients, they often assume their results speak for themselves. They do good work quietly and wait to be noticed. Then someone with a clearer presence gets the room, the mandate, or the promotion.

Presence is not about being the loudest voice. It is about being known for something specific and staying consistent enough that people can describe it when you are not there.

Where are you letting good work speak for itself when it needs your voice behind it?

Searching alone has a real cost. Not just the hours, but the lack of a second opinion on your resume, your interview answers, or the roles you're even choosing to go after.

Our Job Search Accelerator Group Coaching Program pairs you with a small group and a real coach for the length of your search. It's virtual, so distance is never the reason you skip it. You leave with a strategy you understand, materials that hold up under a recruiter's scrutiny, and people in your corner who will tell you the truth about what's working.

That kind of restraint is harder than it sounds. Most of the leaders we coach don't struggle with picking good people. They struggle with stepping back once those people are in place.

Trust shows up less in what you say and more in what you leave alone.

Most job searches don't fail because someone isn't qualified. They stall because no one is checking the strategy along the way, and it's easy to spend months applying without knowing what's actually working.

That's what our Job Search Accelerator Group Coaching Program is built to fix. It's a virtual cohort, so it works whether you're in Pittsburgh, Houston, or anywhere else, and it gives you:

• A targeted strategy you can actually defend in an interview
• Materials that communicate your full value, not just your job history
• Interview language practiced out loud with a real coach
• A network strategy you will actually use

The next virtual cohort starts Friday, August 7, 2026.

87% of employers now use behavioral interviews as their primary way to assess candidates.

That's good news if you prepare for it and a problem if you don't. A behavioral question isn't really asking what you did. It's asking how you think, under real conditions, with real stakes. Most candidates answer with a summary. The stronger answer is a specific story: one situation, the decision you made, and what happened because of it.

Before your next interview, build two or three of those stories in advance. Not a resume bullet rewritten as a sentence. An actual moment you can walk someone through in under two minutes.

The candidates who stand out are rarely the most qualified on paper. They're the ones who make their experience easy to picture.

VP-level searches now average six to twelve months. C-suite searches stretch to nine to eighteen.

In our coaching work, the professionals who move through that timeline fastest aren't the ones applying to the most roles. They're the ones who got clear on their story early: what they're moving toward, why it makes sense given their background, and how to say that in one sentence before a recruiter ever asks.

A long search is rarely a qualifications problem. It's a clarity problem. The market isn't always saying no. Sometimes it hasn't seen the full picture yet.

If your search is taking longer than expected, which is more likely: too broad a target, or too quiet a story?

73% of employees trust their direct manager. Only 50% say the same about senior leadership.

We see that gap constantly in coaching sessions. Senior leaders often treat presence as a visibility problem: more updates, more all-hands, more airtime. But visibility doesn't close a trust gap. The managers closest to teams earn trust in small, specific moments, while senior leaders tend to speak in broad strokes and leave the translation to someone else.

The leaders who close that gap get specific: what changed, why it changed, and what it means for the people who weren't in the room when the decision got made.

Where do you see that gap show up on your team?

Career coaching gets lumped in with resume writing sometimes, but the work is different. Resume writing gets your story on paper. Coaching gets you clear on what that story even is before you write a word of it.

Most of our clients come in thinking they need a better resume. What they usually need first is clarity on what they're actually pursuing and why.

If you had to explain your next career move in one sentence, could you?
