MAC attended today's HGAC Parks and Natural Areas Roundtable Field Trip at the Dr. Ned & Fay Dudney Nature Center Nature in League City, Texas. Topics ranged from park development and birding, to erosion and invasive plant species control as we walked some of the trails and viewed some birdwatching blinds.

The Moore Archeological Consulting team joined our parent company CEI at the Texas Department of Transportation Environmental Conference with our newest addition, Jason Barrett, Ph.D. Jason is now our Southwest Regional Director for Cultural Resources.
It was great to renew old friendships and make new ones face to face again after a wild year and a bit. We're looking forward to flexing some of our new capabilities in the year ahead.

On October 24, MAC Senior Archeologist Douglas Mangum gave a presentation titled Retreat and Capitulation: The Aftermath of the Battle of San Jacinto at the San Jacinto Museum of History as part of Texas Archeology Month. This presentation followed our work in chasing the retreating Mexican forces as they fled along Peggy Lake after the battle was already lost that day of April 21, 1836. We shared our results, including artifacts found and understandings reached, and explained why we found the site of a mass surrender where we did.
An earlier presentation was made by Gregg Dimmick covering finds within the main park as associated with the 18 minutes of the battle itself. All in all it was a good evening for Texas History.

Many voices — including botanists, archaeologists, and Joy Harjo, the U.S. poet laureate — are calling to create an enormous national park along the Ocmulgee River that runs through the heart of Georgia. In our story today, Janisse Ray ( ) author of Ecology of a Cracker Childhood, describes the Ocmulgee River Corridor as “an archaeological landscape” where almost 900 known historic sites have been mapped. These include ancient mounds and villages, Creek settlements, colonial forts, and African American cemeteries. About 60% of the sites are within 5 miles of the Ocmulgee. In her story, Janisse takes us through what this would mean for “all who have gone before and all to come” and also how you can be one of the voices calling for this park to happen.
