Many women call it strength when it is actually survival.
Let’s talk about it.
Hyper-independence is often celebrated.
“I don’t need anyone.”
“I’ll figure it out myself.”
“I’ll carry it.”
But as a Trauma-Informed Leadership Strategist, I need women to understand something:
Many people did not become hyper-independent because they wanted to.
They became hyper-independent because they learned they couldn’t safely depend on others.
That is a trauma response.
And while it may have protected you at one point…
It can also isolate you.
Healing is learning that support does not equal weakness.
Trust does not equal vulnerability to harm.
And receiving does not make you less powerful.
You do not have to carry every burden alone to prove your strength.
Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is allow yourself to be supported.
Healing teaches us that strength and softness can coexist.
And that’s where true freedom begins.
